NEWSMAX- Seven in 10 American adults oppose U.S. military action against Venezuela, a country 39% say poses no threat to the United States, according to a new CBS News poll released Sunday.

Further, large majorities across party lines say the Trump administration must clarify its plans for any U.S. action against Venezuela — and that it has not done so yet, the survey said.

The poll found that 86% of independents and 64% of Republicans surveyed said that President Donald Trump needs to explain his decisions against Venezuela, with 76% saying he has not sufficiently done that.

The poll results come as the U.S. has deployed warships, submarines, and aircraft in the Caribbean and launched multiple strikes on vessels tied to Venezuelan drug trafficking, including those allegedly linked to boats of the Venezuelan regime’s militias.

To that end, 53% said they approve of the administration’s strikes against the drug boats, while 75% said the U.S. needs to show evidence that the boats are carrying drugs, the survey said.

However, 56% said that military action against Venezuela would not change the amount of drugs entering the U.S.

Within the president’s GOP base, MAGA Republicans are more supportive of possible military action than non-MAGA Republicans. While 66% of MAGA said they would favor military action in Venezuela, 47% of non-MAGA Republicans say they would, according to the poll.

Overall, less than half of those surveyed (48%) see Venezuela as a minor threat against 13% who say the country poses a major threat.

CBS News surveyed 2,489 adults between Nov. 19-21. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.4 percentage points.

  1. Being Anti-war is not a minority opinion. And it’s surprising that people here who will be directly affected by a conflict in the region actually supports such.

  2. The same thing with when Franklyn D Roosevelt eent to Europe WWII, same thing when Obama went to Libya. The same as Bush going to Iraq the same as Lyndon Johnson going to Vietnam… Who wants war? No one does but putting the drug cartel situation aside the situation is Venezuela on a whole is an indirect threat to the region. The unstable economic crisis will go far South as they always do under all dictatorships.

  3. Don’t ask one question on the opinion poll, ask many question.
So, also ask, how many people wants the Maduro regime to be removed?

You would find that 70% of Venezuelans already answered that question, and at the end of the day, that’s what counts. Who are we to speak for the citizens of Venezuela, they have already spoken..So Maduro should step down and do the right thing and not bring caos to his people.

So stop being miss leading with your articles.
This is the brain washing that these news syndicates perform..pure brain washing.

Give the full naritive and stop being disingenuous.

  4. Wow wow wow Islanman26 you are in a different world let me remind you that Libya was one of the most productive country in the world under the dictatorship of the Comadan’t in Chief H E Maumar Kadafi his ideas was a United Africa under the disguise of Democracy regime change he was killed by the West very soon we will see the son of the so called dictator as President look at the bigger picture Haiti our neighbor an elected president Bertrand Aristide was remove and exile by the West look at Haiti Venezuela today under the late Comadan’t Hugo Chavez the poor people benefited more it was the United States ideas to remove any one who is different Maduro will carry the fight with assistant from Iran🇮🇷 China🇨🇳 Russia🇷🇺 North Korea🇰🇷 the bulling must stop I can assure you that the the first aircraft carrier will go down For the first time G20 have achieve its goal with the absent of the Americans at the summit listen to the Canadian Prime Minister

  5. @islandman How is it brain washing that Americans don’t want their military to invade another country which America is the aggressors in instead of fixing their living standards across America?

They are not doing it for the people of Venezuela they are doing it for profit as Maria Machado has promised to privatize all government assets and cut ties to China and Russia to be an asset of America once again. How will that benefit Venezuela? Look at Argentina who did the same thing the people are worst off massive lost of jobs and they needed a 80 billion bailout since they are not on a up after Milei did the samething.

@the world America doesn’t do after dictator they pick and choose who they want to go after and make up reasons to go after them Libya’s Gaddafi would have been better off today then what is happening now look at the social and economical benefits he brought to the country and technological advances, but his crime was wanting to unify Africa. They are many dictators that lived their life in office without a peep from outside countries which is why the people revolt and take their power themselves, America only cares about one thing and their profit if they can make money from that country who incharge and what they do isn’t their business.
America would have been better off not trying to invade Vietnam they lost and many American lifes fell which honestly help Americans wake up to they did over seas which their culture movement like the hippies and other movements that stem from that.
The biggest contribution US made in WW2 was material support because they didn’t want to enter the war and only did so when Imperial Japan bombed then but they already was providing material support in Europe but main stream opinion considers them to play a bigger part than they did in the west at least because Asia prospective never gets talked about in history even though Japan did as much as Germany especially in China which they commited genocide in and still haven’t been recognised today by the Japanese government which rubs of on their opinion today which what caused the outrage of JP PM statement about Taiwan.

  6. While many of you are very good at revisionist history, this is a isolated incident for me.
The people of Venezuela has already spoken in their election, a totally different scenario than what is explained in the other cases.

I am for free movement of people, period .I don’t care which country it is, but when a people has spoken, their voices must be heard, and the people of Venezuela has already spoken.

Abuse is abuse, and even though I don’t like wars, you cannot just abuse free speaking innocent people and get away with it, whether on a international level or a personal one.

Y’all are missing that one big point. I don’t care if it was Russia or any other country fighting for the people of Venezuela, in this isolated incident, Maduro must go.

  7. And @young

Again, who are you or I to decide for the people of Venezuela? They have already spoken in their free election, and they voted against this mad man.

Why are you glossing over that glaring point, and, seems to be proposing that you know better than the people of Venezuela, who lives and breath their own air?

  8. @islanman I don’t believe any outside country should use military force on another country. I’m not deciding what should happen in Venezuela I’m telling it’s quite the opposite I believe they should solve the issue themself.

America isn’t just going to walk in and overthrow Maduro in a week it’s going to be months/years and all that damage will be on Venezuela’s land

You kinda miss understand how democracy works just because you vote for someone doesn’t mean everything you do you agree with unless she followed Chavez and talked with the people and came to the agreement they need outside help I doubt people will willing ask for their country to be invaded even if their standard of living is bad.
