Police in Antigua and Barbuda are warning the public about individuals falsely claiming to represent charities or community causes to solicit donations.

The alert follows reports that people were collecting money on behalf of the family of Chantel Crump without their consent.

In a statement, the Royal Police Force said scammers are exploiting public goodwill, undermining trust in legitimate charities. They reminded the public that obtaining money under false pretences is a criminal offence under Section 27 of the Larceny Act.

Authorities have urged anyone involved in such activities to stop immediately or face legal action.

The public is encouraged to report suspected scams to the Criminal Investigations Department on 462-3913/14.
