Police Warn Illegal Licence Plate Swappers Will Be Caught by New Detection System

Motorists who illegally alter or swap licence plates have been warned they will be caught when police introduce new real-time detection technology next year.

Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers said the licence plate recognition system will allow officers on patrol to instantly identify vehicles whose plates do not match Transport Board records.

“Those of you who keep changing number plates and you’re not Transport Board, we will catch you,” he told state media, describing the technology as a major shift in road policing.

Police say the system will automatically scan passing vehicles and alert officers to irregularities, closing a loophole often used in vehicle theft and other crimes.

Mr Jeffers said the force would continue to adapt its strategies as new tools come on stream, stressing the need for flexibility in tackling crime. He also appealed for public patience amid concerns about criminal activity, assuring residents that enforcement efforts are being strengthened.

The technology is part of a wider drive to modernise policing, improve detection times and boost public confidence through more effective and visible law enforcement.

  3. You don’t have the proper technology and our overall database, if we do have any is not up to date. In the US when a cop drives behind you, because of the powerful database and computer system in his unit, he is able to right there and then pull your license plate number up and get all information needed. Is this the type of technology you speak of? I notice you’re making a lot of tuff speeches, like if you are a new comer, but as I recalled, you was always a top brass who sat around the the round table for years, so why now? and why are you coming on air and letting all of your crime fighting tools out?

    Even if this happens, they won’t catch a lot if ppl for love reason… The police don’t patrol. Normally when you see police on the road, going going from one point to another. Later it will be a case where they claim the system broke down

  5. So far so good for the Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers. The country at large want him to be successful.

    The thing I like about him so far, is he is talking to the public (unlike the previous incumbent), and wants to halt the tidal wave of criminal activities threatening to engulf us.

    As long as he’s allowed to investigate ALL types of crime – including white collar -, then we’re in safe hands. Early days though …

  7. Hold your corrupt cops accountable too, they are on alot of these criminals pockets. They also their emotions get the bets of them when it comes to women they’re pursuing.

  8. Everton how about you raid all them weed spots in grays farm and send a stern warning to of all these so hustlers frigging up our community with their drugs.
