Police Statement on Robbery and Shooting
Police are continuing investigations into a robbery and a shooting incident involving three suspects.
Around 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 15th, the police responded to a report of robbery at Parham where two men allegedly assaulted and robbed the owners of a business place of an undisclosed sum of money.
The assailants fled the scene in a silver Toyota Mark-X motor car that was later intercepted by police at Ebenezer.
A confrontation ensued, resulting in an exchange of fire between the police and the suspects, and all three were injured and taken to the hospital.
One man was pronounced dead, while the other two are receiving medical treatment.
The police recovered a firearm and a modified flare gun, among other items from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner, Mr. Atlee Rodney is thanking the public for their support as the police continue to address the crime situation in the country.
He encourage business owners to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police in a timely manner.
Commissioner Rodney is also commending his officers for remaining resolute and committed in their fight against crime.

Yes Mr. Pompey you are correct. While the Police press release says that the guns were recovered at the crime scene, the Commissioner of Police in his report on the matter says that the guns were recovered from the robbers vehicle which was in Ebenezer. We will see if the killing was extra- judicial but I will doubt that very much if the robbers were returning fire. These blatant and outrageous daylight robberies must stop and the use of a child in one such recent robbery is beyond outrageous.

If the police asked them to stop and the criminals opened fire then of course the police were in the right. They should have stopped and surrendered. Even if they didn’t fire first they were a threat. Perhaps the police tried a non-fatal shot first and they responded. No one cares. The police neutralized the threat. One ended up dead. Hopefully he said a prayer before having to meet his maker. The others were injured and presumably stopped shooting. So, the police stopped shooting as they rightly should. There was no need for the police to do anything else to them once they were no longer a threat. If they recover they will go to jail for hopefully a long time. They will likely be left with injuries that will remind them of the incident. Justice is served. All law abiding citizens just want is for the criminals to stop their behaviour and find honest work to do. But, if they don’t society has a right to defend itself. Hopefully other young would be robbers will reconsider their life choices. YouTube, T.V. and gangster movies are a lie. Being a criminal always just eventually gets you either in jail or dead at a young age. Antigua is a small place. There is no where to run. Criminals will always eventually get caught.
