Police Silent on Male Suspect in Chantel Crump Murder Probe
Police have refused to comment on the status of a male suspect in the murder investigation of nine-year-old Chantel Crump, amid mounting public pressure for answers.
While Angela Mahia has been charged in connection with the child’s death, the man—detained earlier in the inquiry—remains in custody without any charges being filed. Authorities cite the ongoing investigation as the reason for their silence.
Legal experts point out that suspects typically cannot be held for more than 48 hours without charge, unless under protective custody—a possibility some believe may explain the man’s detention.
Chantel’s body was discovered in Weatherills on 15 March, following a police-led search guided by Mahia. Despite the formal charge, speculation persists over the involvement of others in the case.

They hold my father for nearly a week without charge and I had to inform them they are in violation of the law, the officer had no clue, none of them did.
If they do not have any probable cause to arrest this man, release this man, and continue their investigation. If there is a reasonable suspicion, they can publicly say he is a suspect but if there isn’t enough to have a suspicion, do not publicly name him.
I believe in fairness and due process in all aspect of government work. Due process in the criminal justice system and in government administrative proceedings.
My way of helping was this the incident where he ended up handicapping a young man ( Damien Watson) who was simply waiting for his girl friend to come home? Was it the other incident where he was later charged (and acquitted) for shooting Kyle Maxima?
Exactly for whom or from whom are the Police shielding this man? Are they keeping him in Police custody beyond the legal limit on order to provide him with a legitimate cause for his eventual release on a technicality? This smells like SIN, very , very BAD!. Everybody knows that the chipd charged with murder will eventually escape the full brunt of the law on account of today’s buzzword “mental illness”. Chantel is about ti be buried and that will be the end of that! Mr Commisioner, your actions and those of your force are highly suspicious. The matter of this innocent little girl is very serious and touching. However, look at the Asot Michael case.When was the last time we heard anything? A man was arrested and charged for that murder, then what. It went very quiet so quickly, I wondered why. This matter of Chantel is not going the way of those before her.
It is unbearable what is going on here. Everything about Chantel’s death is tailored to a 20-year-old woman. You immediately notice that something is wrong here. But someone has anything against becoming known. Something has to happen.
I believe if the police had evidence to hold him they would have done so like they did with Angela.
