Police Seize 52 Illegal Firearms, 770 Rounds of Ammunition in Targeted Operations

Targeted police operations in 2025 resulted in the seizure of 52 illegal firearms and more than 770 rounds of ammunition, surpassing the number of weapons recovered during the April National Gun Amnesty, police say.

The figures were disclosed by Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers during his Christmas and end-of-year address to officers, where he outlined enforcement outcomes and operational progress across the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda.

Police officials said the seizures were the result of focused enforcement strategies involving specialized units, including the Narcotics Department and the K-9 Unit, supported by inter-agency cooperation. The operations formed part of wider efforts to disrupt illegal firearms trafficking and reduce gun-related crime.

Jeffers also referenced the staging of Police Week 2025, noting that the series of activities strengthened engagement between the force and the public. He thanked sponsors and partners for their contributions to the success of the event.

The firearms recoveries were reported as part of a broader crime-reduction strategy, as the police prepare for increased security responsibilities in 2026, including major national and international events.
