Police Record More Robbery Arrests, Urge Public Vigilance
Antigua and Barbuda Police have reported an increase in robbery arrests and convictions in recent weeks, even as authorities continue to urge the public to take greater precautions and assist in crime prevention efforts.
Speaking during Thursday’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the issue of robberies remains a concern for law enforcement, but that police have been successful in apprehending offenders.

“With the increase in robberies, the police are also reporting an increase in convictions, in apprehending the perpetrators,” Merchant said.
He added that law enforcement officials now intend to shift greater attention to deterrence and community involvement. “They now need to focus on prevention, not simply acting after the fact,” he said. “Prevention takes the buy-in of all of us… see something, say something.”
Merchant said police are encouraging residents to remain alert, especially when conducting business or parking vehicles in isolated or poorly lit areas. He added that public awareness and vigilance can help reduce opportunities for criminal activity.
Authorities have also pledged continued collaboration with communities to strengthen neighborhood watch efforts and improve response times.

I keep saying this. “See something, say something”. We have to do this together. Plenty see and know and don’t ever speak up. Solving this type of crime is a collaborative effort. ALL hands on deck.

The government should get solar powered streetlight with camera combination out of china to replace all existing streetlights system and help the police and government solve crime.
It’s not just an “increase in robberies,” the blunt fact is, there is also the increase in violent robberies, by using force and deadly weapons, in addition to, the time of day when these “robberies” are occurring are happening more frequently during the daytime hours and in densely populated areas where, the #see_something, #say_something relevant (I’ll stress relevance because some still think this is nothing compared to other regions, some knows [da crooks in high and low places], that PEOPLE will know, see and won’t say or do shit).
While law enforcement is being more proactive on several fronts (fraud, embezzlement and of course armed robberies), I hope, that they’re and I mean to include REGIONAL FORCES (immigration, free visa and free movements will cause an increase in many things outside of jobs), are lobbying the legislators hard do that they can upgrade their CRIME FIGHTING SYSTEMS- both trained personnel and equipment).
A few other points….
(i)…Anguilla is now considered, the safest island in the Caribbean, it would be good to understand some of what their protocols are from immigration to business ownership. The reason is, Barbuda in somewhat of an infancy in terms of being developed, it’s not always necessary to reinvent #da_wheel.
(ii)…in terms of the easy access to guns recently, or is it perception because they’re being used nefariously [now], and the fact that weapons of any kind especially when they begin to show up, in masses, in particular quarters, these weapons are usually tied to MONEY LAUNDERING and of course DRUGS on the illicit market or unregulated markets; so, the question begs has the LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES in Antigua formed, a task force to deal with the overall increase in crimes?
This is being proactive, as information is shared in real time between all agencies, similar to what American did after 911, by forming CODIS etc.

What Gaston need to do, is send them Haiti or wherever they fighting war to fight. Gun they love, so let them use guns. Something drastic has to been done for this to stop, people have to be living or operating like they are in jail. That’s no way to live.
