Police Probe Twin Water Vending Machine Thefts Across Antigua

Police are investigating two separate incidents of theft targeting water vending machines in Antigua, with both cases resulting in the loss of undisclosed sums of cash.

The first incident occurred around 3:30am on Tuesday at DJM Mini Mart in Clarks Hill.

Thieves reportedly broke into the water refill machine on site, creating an opening through which they accessed and removed the cash inside.

Hours earlier, a similar theft took place at Fresh and Easy Supermarket in Belmont. In this instance, the perpetrators are believed to have struck between 10:00pm Monday and 2:00am Tuesday.

Instead of forcing the machine open, they dismantled and removed the entire cash-holding compartment attached to the unit.

In both cases, the amount of money stolen has not been disclosed. Authorities say the figures are being withheld as investigations continue. Police have not yet confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.

  1. Antigua now has the unenviable distinction of being the thief capital of the entire Caribbean. The petty criminals are following the ones in jacket and tie daily who do it with impunity
    ..

  2. Please read the article again, it did not say they move the machines it said they dismantle one of the machines and took the cash . And the other machine they took out the cash holding compartment. Don’t come for me, reading Is fundamental.

  3. I am convinced there is an increase in drug addiction across the country that is fueling these petty crime. I never supported the legalisation of ganja. Studies has shown it is a gateway drug.

  4. The way these criminals move is killing me. A whole machine that didn’t do you anything and you mash up the people dem money. Antigua.news did a video on young men working in construction field! Why these thieves can join?

  5. Why do they leave money in these things though? I thought they took it out after closing hours. These criminals as well, they are sickening. How do you just go to mash up a whole machine that just sit there? The energy it takes to damage this thing is hilarious

  6. Instead of stealing, why not start your own water business? Perhaps try a business installing and maintaining affordable cisterns, tanks, pumps and piping that allow persons to readily access water from indoor pipes when water is off. Or, try a business retrofitting homes for washing machine and washing sink installation indoors or in outdoor sheds etc. Or, try a business installing water filtration systems under sinks so persons can get pure water at home. So, business options. Be a hero and provide a useful service to society instead of destroying the little that we have that’s good.
