Police Probe Alleged $14,000 Fraud Over Unfulfilled Vehicle Clearance

8

Police are investigating a suspected fraud in which a man allegedly paid $14,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars for vehicle clearance services that were never carried out.

The complainant, from Follies Development, told officers he handed the money to a Gunthorpes resident in April 2025 to clear a vehicle from the port in St John’s. However, months later, he has reportedly not received the vehicle.

He claims the recipient has since ceased all communication, and repeated attempts to reach them by phone and in person have been unsuccessful.

  5. Lord have mercy. people are still falling prey to these unscrupulous people. Well I sure you have your receipts to show who account the money went to. In this day and age people still bad playing people like that. You should have gotten the police involved the next day, cause i recently cleared a vehicle and it wasn’t that hard.
It took me two days to get my vehicle out

  6. Alot of people are falling victims to that. In this day and age everyone can order their vehicles. And so many dishonest people around the country. People be aware

  7. I’m glad the victim filed a police report. It’s crucial that the authorities take these cases seriously and hold the perpetrators accountable. When people get away with fraud, it encourages more of the same. The police need to send a strong message that this kind of criminal activity will not be tolerated. We need to protect consumers from these kinds of scams.
