Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Collision on Old Parham Road

St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Tuesday, 22 July 2025
Antigua and Barbuda police are continuing investigations into a fatal traffic collision that claimed the life of 30-year-old Huneka Benjamin of Clare Hall.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Monday, 21 July 2025, on Old Parham Road in the vicinity of the CIBC Bank.
It involved a white Lexus GS350 motor car driven by Dalton Hall of Church Lane, and a grey Toyota Vitz motor car, which was being driven by the deceased.
Initial reports suggest that Benjamin was exiting the CIBC parking lot and attempting to turn onto Old Parham Road from the north heading south, when her vehicle collided with the Lexus, which was travelling westward on Old Parham Road.
The impact of the collision caused the Toyota Vitz to come to rest on the northern side of the roadway, facing north, while the Lexus veered off to the southern side and landed on a vacant lot.
Benjamin sustained multiple injuries and was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 8:16 p.m.
The driver and a passenger from the Lexus were also taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage as a result of the collision.
The Traffic Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

So sad to see the life of such a vibrant and promising beautiful gem been flushed away at such a young age. One can only hope that her family’s and friends will find some form of solace in this difficult time.
We must continue to encourage our drivers to adhered to proper safety protocols when using the roads and ensure the best safety standards for all user’s at all times.
Was it the Toyota Vitz that collided with the Lexus. or was it the Lexus that collided with the Vitz? That’s part of the reporting seem to suggest the former. I am very much sympathetic at this time to the close friends and family. I know it must not be easy. I have children too and pray earnestly always. I will continue to hold you up in my prayers.

From the pictures going around her car was hit directly in the side. The term used for that type of accident is called (T bone or broadside collision) with that said it more looks like her vehicle was hit.
Every day I drive on these roads I see some young or foolish person with a joint of marijuana in their mouth driving like a idiot. I guarantee if the government stop allowing people to smoke and drink outside their homes all these accidents will cease.
I hate wen ppl put Marijuana in things I’ve see normal ppl drive like assholes including police so the police under Marijuana too chupzzzz
My sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
For the vehicles to sustain such extensive damages I can safely conclude that the driver of the Lexus was traveling far beyond the speed limit and must be charged with “causing death by dangerous driving.”
That particular area is an area where there is almost daily congestive traffic due to the CIBC Bank, Inet Office and KFC and anyone who drives in that area is expected to proceed with caution.
The traffic police and by extension the government must take a serious and firm stand to hold accountable there road speeders. These male chauvinistic drivers even though their cars are slow, I mean literally slow, they still tell themselves and like to impress others that they have a fast car. Hence they speed on the roads thus violating the speed limits and potentially endangering the lives of others. Let them take their cars to the track. They all should know that SPEED TRILLS AND KILLS. The driver and passenger of the Lexus would NOW realize that.
I know that some of these drives are friends of the police. And until such time that police stop being too friendly or ignoring these speed violators these accidents will not stop.
Hope the family of the deceased gets justice.
Questions questions questions.
Was she coming from a secondary road into a major road?
Did she ensure that the road was clear and safe to move?
If she saw the vehicle coming how far was it from her?
Too many times I see drivers wait until a vehicle is close to them for them too cut across the oncoming vehicle, only to slow down again Infront of the vehicle they cut across.
Hope this was not the case with her.
As an investigative journalist and looking at the accident from all angles, the lexus driver could walk away with no charges.
This is so tragic. There is a situation that needs addressing urgently. The traffic light at the corner by Robinson’s Gas Station. Drivers speeding up and down All Saints road are making it difficult for drivers to get on and off DeSuza road, something serious will soon happen there
The police should be truthful. The deceased brother is an officer. Don’t cause contention within your institution. Was the deceased a passenger or driver of the vehicle? Was she found dead behind the wheel? Did the corporal on Observer AM state she was the passenger? I suggest the police search for the driver of the Vitz who likely left the scene of the accident unhurt. There are cameras utilize them.
@Aunty dodo
No matter how you twist or turn the Lexus was being driven too fast…..
Wicked people. Now he’s fine and living
Wow. I can only imagine how the family feels
That Lexus had to be driving fast to have that kind of damage if it was 45 the young lady would be alive but the way the to vehicle and the viz speed was involve
Condolences to the family of the young lady
Fact is doesn’t matter if the Lexus was going 100mph or 40mph she came out of the bank complex onto a main high way and it wasn’t clear yes speed made the accident worst than what it could have been but the FACTS still remains he was on his right of way and someone came out into his path point black period
Based on the image shown I believe if the lexus was going more than 40mph the damage to her vehicle would have been more.. Also based on the image provided the Impact on her vehicle shows she came out into the road at a dangerous time, while the lexus may have been over the speed limit she should have waited one minute.. The fact that only the drives side got impacted says the lexus was not to far from her. Condolences to her family and friends💐 it’s a very sad situation.
After reviewing the photo from the accident scene, several details stand out that raise serious and heartbreaking questions.
It appears the driver of the Vitz may have been attempting to exit the bank’s parking lot, possibly trying to beat the oncoming Lexus. The Lexus, based on its positioning, seems to have been traveling in its correct lane—possibly at a moderate speed—when the sudden impact occurred.
From all visual indications, the Lexus maintained its rightful course, while the Vitz appears to have misjudged the timing and entered into oncoming traffic, leading to the collision.
What’s even more troubling is that all visible damage to the Vitz occurred on the passenger side. This leads to an important question: Was the deceased seated in the passenger seat? And if so, was there someone else driving the vehicle? If another person was behind the wheel, it raises the possibility that dangerous or reckless driving led to this tragic loss of life.
Our hearts go out to the grieving family. This is a painful reminder that one second of misjudgment can have irreversible consequences. Let this serve as a wake-up call for all of us to drive with greater caution, responsibility, and regard for those we carry with us.
May justice prevail, and may the soul of the departed rest in eternal peace. 🕊️🙏
In light of the recent tragic accident, I strongly believe the bank should seriously consider closing off that particular exit. When you look at the layout and traffic flow, it’s evident that the exit poses a significant danger—not just occasionally, but continually.
I have personally witnessed several vehicles exiting that bank without properly checking for oncoming traffic—some driving straight across, some turning up or down the main road—often without taking the necessary precautions.
That area connects directly to a busy main road, and too many drivers exit recklessly, assuming they can beat the flow of traffic. Sadly, it’s a recipe for disaster, and this is not the first accident to occur at that very spot.
If action is not taken, more lives could be at risk. I urge the relevant authorities and the bank’s management to reassess the safety of that exit, explore alternatives, and implement measures that will prevent future tragedies.
It’s time to prioritize lives over convenience. 🛑🚗💔
Gone too soon RIP Huneka I do hope the driver come fort to the authorities cause a young life has been taken away too soon I believe speed was a factor there should be a speed limit on those road it’s not a highway to be going so fast .
