A delay in police action has come to light in a case involving a medical doctor facing two sexual offense charges.

The doctor, whose identity remains undisclosed due to legal reasons, was reportedly granted bail after appearing in the St John’s Magistrates Court on Friday, May 3rd.

The charges of serious indecency and indecent assault stem from an alleged incident on July 27th, 2023, during a medical consultation.

What’s particularly troubling about this case is the delay in addressing the reported offenses.

Real News initially reported the incident in mid-August last year, highlighting the inaction of law enforcement.

It wasn’t until recently, nearly a year later, that an arrest was made and charges were laid against the doctor.

Sources reveal that pressure was applied to the police hierarchy after the victim escalated the matter to the ombudsman due to perceived inaction.

Prior to this, there were reportedly doubts within the police force regarding the validity of the report, based on assumptions about the victim’s mental state.

While bail has been granted, further legal proceedings are expected.

  3. We in Antigua and Barbuda don’t think the the law goes for all.we pick and choose. Who go to jail or not especially wen it come to ppl in big position. So Sean u RIGHT. One day BF this world ENDS we will see that the law goes for all. IN ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA.. When you are found GUILTY. NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE..

  4. Yes the police never believe anything until it happens to one of their own or it hits close to home but alot has gone unpunished in this little 108 of ours but God nar sleep, man judgement denied but God judgement sure , time will tell and sometimes we see people walking road and crazy like bat plenty ar wickedness some done do and conscience kick in, time and truth walk hands in hands God nar sleep

  5. This might be a turning point in how doctors deal with and treat female patients from here onwards. It’s almost been a norm for doctors to treat women without a nurse present. I witnessed this myself before the birth of my children.

  6. Well, we know how this will be played out. There will be several continuances and eventually the police will lose th case file of the Judge will get annoyed with the prosecution’s lack of preparedness and throw out the case.
…and another well-to-do criminal will walk away scot free. Justice A&B style

  7. If this incident was an isolated case of accusation, I could understand why, there was a delay by the police. I could also understand why there was a question raised about the patient’s mental state. However this man has been repeatedly accused of similar actions. If he was constantly accused by “the same individual”, for over ten years I could understand why there was a delay but I strongly doubt that was the case. I vividly remember being a patient of his when I started hearing about multiple allegations of indecency by this doctor. These allegations were even in the printed newspaper at one point. This caused me to change doctors. I was shocked to see that after a while he reopened his practice in a larger capacity.

  8. If the mental state of the victim was a concern, I see nothing in the news report that states the police did an investigation to see if this was the case. Police, NO ONE who is accused of a crime like that is gonna say “yea, i did it.” That doctor probably planted that idea in their head and because he’s a “doctor “, the police will take his word over the victims. The fact that an arrest was made tells me there was enough evidence to move forward with the case, PLUS the arrest happened only AFTER pressure was applied. Is just so police can come up with an EXCUSE as to why they not moving forward? This is scary. Happy the victim is getting some justice.
