Police Consider Expanding Routine Searches Following Recent Vehicle Discoveries
Law enforcement authorities may increase routine searches following the recent discovery of four vehicles during a search operation. While no formal policy changes have been announced, discussions on the effectiveness of routine searches and their potential expansion have been raised.
During the Post-Cabinet press briefing, Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst acknowledged that the police rely on tips and community reports when conducting searches, emphasizing that their approach depends on the circumstances of each case.
“The police go on tips, you know, on helpful hints that are given by members of the population,” Hurst explained.
The discovery of the vehicles has renewed discussions about the need for more proactive search efforts, particularly in areas where missing persons and criminal activity have been reported. Hurst noted that searches are often targeted based on logical assessments, such as the location where a missing person was last seen or the likelihood of a vehicle being hidden in a particular area.
“If someone from Liberta is missing, the likelihood is that if the person wasn’t driving a car, then you can look in and around the hills of Liberta in order to determine whether or not that person has strayed from his or her home,” he stated.
Concerns have also been raised about the vast amount of unmonitored land across Antigua and Barbuda, with some areas providing cover for illegal activities.
“Did we surprise you how many hiding places there can be in Antigua? Because the verdant green hills that we sing about are that way because it’s been raining recently. So it reduces a lot of cover or a lot of bad things to be made,” Hurst remarked, highlighting the challenges in search operations.
As discussions on crime prevention and investigative efficiency continue, authorities may review search policies to determine whether routine checks should be expanded in certain areas. No official directive has been issued yet, but further updates are expected in the coming weeks.

Yes you are so right bushes needs to be cleared especially people that buy and have lands they are overseas don’t send anyone to clean their lands and so cause problems for the neighbors around please those lands needs to be cleared and clean immediately especially in Golden Grove New Ext thanks.
While safety is important, expanding searches must respect people’s rights.
Hope this is targeted and not just random stops causing inconvenience for law-abiding citizens.
If it helps get illegal weapons and drugs off the streets, then it’s a good move!
The police need to be clear about the criteria for these searches—transparency builds trust.
Crime is a real issue, but will this really make a difference, or just create more tension?
This could be a slippery slope if not properly regulated. Safeguards are necessary!
Sorry I have not been able to contribute as often as I have, flooded with immigration cases (deportation, abuse relative greencard, crime victim visas, etcetera).
I have expressed for years the importance of having officers frequent all areas of Antigua and Barbuda to determine and prevent crimes. I mentioned even those beaches not regularly used and is isolated should have regular patrol. I mentioned these bush area should regularly have police and military in appropriate field clothing patrol by going directly into these fields.
I am also strongly recommending for police officers to have a regular patrol and inspect procedure for high-up government officials. Their home must be under some reliable and frequent patrol, for government officials that includes but not limited to PM, AG, GG, all elected officials, senators, military leaders, police leaders, etcetera.
This frequent and prudent patrol and inspection (particular person could waive such right/benefit), will secure the government and will also have (incidental or intended) benefits to the general public as going to and from those places the officer is also patrolling the other areas.
Every thing I have expressed to you before has proven to be correct, why not listen to prudence? I have been saying this for years. What if you had listened or was truthful about me being an advisor to you pertaining to crime prevention, national security and victim advocacy? There would be less dead and missing Antiguans and Barbudans.
Piggots,parham…look in this áreas
The Police force and Defence force work in tandem from time to time, the Defence force as far as I know have helicopters this search should be made a regular thing, I would even suggest upgrading the helicopters so they colud even do night searches crime would drastically decrease

The police and Defense Force should conduct routine searches from time to time in different areas if Antigua
Why anyone would have a problem with that?
Especially them unused secluded beaches you never knows what could be lurking around
If you have nothing to hide it shouldn’t be a problem
