  1. To be honest, I always have a small knife in my vehicle, there are times I buy fruits and use my knife to peel them, but it could be handy in case I’m attacked by some scumbag

  2. I do not and would never justify and encourage any form of physical violence. However, we are in unprecedented times and people are scared even to drive to work or go the supermarket or even to the doctor. Antiguans has never been a violent people but these days are different. People are forced and compelled into defensive modes as a means of self protection and preservation. 80 percent of residents carry around a scissors, an ice pick, a knife or a cutlass in their cars. They have no violent intentions but it’s a form of defense in these turbulent times. That is why I find it strange that the police would take away these objects from motorists. It is doing nothing more than making ordinary people more vulnerable to thieves and bandits and ultimately less safe.

  3. Please don’t take my #fork_stick because like the main character in Walking Tall, that’s my weapon of choice!

Folks, just about anything can be [weaponized]. Strings, ropes, clothing can be used to strangle.
Stiletto heels, spoons, forks, gasoline, vinegar and who can forget STONES/ROCKS can all be used as weapons, plus the best one COMPUTERS.

The point being made is this; while certain weapons such as guns have become the obvious weapon of choice outside of the computer to commit robbery, murder and other heinous crimes, in Antigua, the MAIN PROBLEM is the changing dynamics which are powering the CULTURE under the ACTION, of FORCES; and, it’s entirely natural for such ACTIONS to create and develop REACTIONARY FORCES.

The ONLY long lasting SOLUTION to what is happening in terms of crimes and criminality is to change the DYNAMICS which is powering the CULTURE.

While road blocks, stop and search, profiling, confiscation of knives, scissors etc will stem the tide, these are ONLY temporary fixes and will not stave off the impending crime tsunami sweeping across the island because CRIMINALS are very adaptable and just like an addict will find ways to get their fix and kicks.

  4. The police have all right to do random searches because they don’t know who they might chance upon with some kind of a ‘hot firearm ‘. Remember the criminals were warned to do whatever they wanted with them, except turning them over to the authorities.

  5. I thought it was guns they were confiscating. So what are we supposed to use to protect ourselves from these criminals that the legal system keep releasing.
