Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney has called for a collective effort to improve conflict resolution skills within the community, linking unresolved disputes to much of the country’s crime. Speaking during his annual press conference, he reviewed the police force’s performance and outlined priorities for 2024.

Rodney noted an expected rise in criminal activity this year, with some crime categories declining while others have increased. He pointed to domestic conflicts as a root cause of incidents such as malicious damage, wounding, and even homicides, urging the community to help young people learn peaceful ways to resolve disputes.

The murder rate rose slightly, with 12 cases reported in 2024 compared to 10 in 2023. Of these, six have led to arrests, while the remaining six remain unresolved. To strengthen investigations, the police have sought assistance from Scotland Yard.
