Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney strongly denounced the brazen daylight rape of a woman on Monday, emphasizing the unwavering dedication of law enforcement to apprehending the culprits.

He stated, “We are taking those things seriously because that should not have happened and we do not want it to happen.

And anyone that we will pursue them, we are pursuing them and we will pursue anybody that tries to disrespect our female population like that.

So it’s something that it is very distasteful to us and we are dead serious to go after persons who are trying to do things like that.”

A woman was rapped and robbed by a group of men while she was walking just off Friars Hill Road at 4:40 pm.

The report on the incident led to widespread outrage and condemnation.

    • Neither from Gaston nor Steadroy. They have created a system that they can’t control. They probably don’t care anyway and I suppose we know why.

    • It appears as though the criminals are beating the law officials to their own game. Our society is small, every one who the officers. Now is the time to make use of civilians who are willing to act as undercovers. Perhaps it might a way of capturing some of the criminals

  1. The Police need to start to do their job to serve and to protect the people of this nation and stop being Lazy on the job.The women of Antigua needs protection from these wicked men walking around the place raping and robbing people. The police is too caught up with joining the secret societies and borrowing people money and not repaying.Police officers do your job.The thieves and rapist know that the police are not doing their job.

    • The local constabulary’s oath does not state they should protect and serve the people of this nation, their allegiance is to Our Sovereign Lord The King.

The British Empire learned from their mistakes by allowing those unruly North Americans to own guns only to rebel against the monarchy, and those French peasants causing a nuisance with their revolution. Allow a bunch of newly freed slaves to govern themselves and protect their lives and livelihood with the right to bear arms? Balderdash!

“You don’t become a cop because you want to serve and protect, you do it because you get respect Most people respect the badge but everyone respects the gun.” Robert DeNiro in Righteous Kill.

  2. Why is the COP not coming to the Media with a press briefing to take questions? This is not right. The Police need to answer questions from the public through our reporters. It is high time these people hide behind their desks and don’t face the public

  3. Police, the Governments can we get some form of corporal punishment here. Like heng them and make an example. Show their faces to the publics let we see the thieves and rapist. It’s not going to stop because our system here is slack. Nothing here is done seriously when it comes to crimes. These same criminals they know they can go jail for a little bit of time and come back out. What are we really doing? What is going to happen is people with license firearm going to kill them any chance they get and they are going to go in on the wrong somebody. It’s not getting any better. We gotta do something.

  4. We don’t need the commissioner to denounce the rapists. We need law enforcement to CATCH THEM.
They are NOT “trying to do these things,” Mr Atlee — They ARE DOING these things.

I maintain, that good citizens forms a civilian army – to protect the women and girls of this country — until it is clear, that law enforcement has a handle on this out of control violence.

Action speaks louder than words — Antiguans are tired of the empty rhetoric, sir!

  5. Ok how about you talk less and investigate trying to have a lead on the case come on now solve atleast one. Atleast one in a million. Oh my gosh can’t even give the Antigua and Barbuda police an E for effort.

  6. This was done in Broward daylight, the victim and others saw the perpetrators, and yet still no arrest and four days already gone? The people of Antigua already denounce the crime, it’s for the police to solve it and make an arrest fast. The more time passes, it’s the more brazen these psychos get.

  7. @From the Sidelines…
That’s not how it works here. This is not Montreal, Charlottesville or Birmingham where they hold News Conferences?
What’s that? Briefing to the media? We don’t do those things here.
In case you missed we live in a 4 th world cesspool where anything goes hardly anything’s goes which represent an advancing society.
We are informed by social media click bait. Where are the journalists who go out and source information and then reports? Where are the whistleblowers? Well there is no graft in Government so there is no need for whistleblowers.
Unfortunately the opposition parties are clueless and so the best goes on.
We are blessed with a jagged coastline with white sand beaches and gentle rolling hills. Those characteristics are our primary resource.
When we don’t give it away, we treat them it like a shit house. No planning, no control of our physical development. We are ending up with ghetto sprawl throughout the island. While some run around with the meaningless statement saying “Antigua me come from”
St.Johns is like a run down ghetto in which we will prance around in 2 months. Oh sweet carnival!!
News conferences which informs the public is an anathema.
Rather than bring an agent for change, you are among the squad that cheers on behalf of the institutions and individuals who created and maintain the cess pool

  8. Although I live in the UK, I’m Antiguan born and proud of my roots. From 1994 until Covid, I had visited the place of my birth once a year sometimes twice.

As early as ’94 when the Chinese made inroads into gaining access into the country through ‘philanthtopic’ gestures, I have watched the events unfurl like a badly written screen play.
Having the foresight to see what was happening to the country, I sold my property and have watched from afar the country slide into (what I can only describe) as the cesspit that it has become. Not a place that I can honestly recommend as a place to holiday. Although I still have monetary interests in Antigua, I will not be visiting anytime soon.

In the recent elections, the electorate was given the option to change course, sweep away the old with all of its scandal and corruption, new goverment new begining, but that opportunity has been lost, its another five year term of seeing Antigua fall even further down the gutter.

  9. Broad daylight rape, and still it’s illegal if I want to bring in tasers to protect myself and my daughter. So women in Antigua must continue to live in fear? It’s like the law defends and protects criminals.
