POEM: Proud to be Black

6

(1)
I will admit that I am in love
But I’m not in love with a woman.
I’m solely in love with my lonesome self
All bcuz of my complexion

                                (2)
I’ve always learnt that Black is beautiful,
And black is also comely;
The texture of my hair & the colour of my skin
Always remind me of my ancestry.

                                (3)

So, would I consider bleaching my skin
Just to look like a caucasian ?
Hell no ! My African image means more to me.
Rather than taking that white persuasion.

                                 (4)
Now, the genes I inherited from my ancestors
Contributes to the person who I am.
Just that thought of how resolute my forefathers  were
Makes me feel proud to be a black man.

                                   (5)
Hence, the struggles that our forefathers experienced,
Were significant in making black people free.
Obviously, the whips they endured & the pains they bore
Were done for you and for me.
                                  (6)
So names like Prince Klaas,  Martin Luther King & Nelson Mandela should never be forgotten;
Bcuz if it were not for the resilience from them
Black people would still be under white suppression.

                                   (7)
So whenever you see me in my African Dashiki,
It’s a message that I’m sending out loud;
It’s a message stating “long live the spirits of our forefathers “
Who made us black, free and proud!

Chris
