PM warns changes to citizenship programmes could hit some Caribbean states harder
Prime Minister Gaston Browne says international actions affecting Citizenship by Investment Programmes (CIP) could have far more severe consequences for some Caribbean countries than for Antigua and Barbuda, warning that abrupt disruption could destabilise economies that depend heavily on the programme.

Speaking on Pointe FM’s Browne and Browne Show on Saturday, Browne said Antigua and Barbuda uses CIP as one source of revenue, but is not as reliant on it as other states in the region.

“For some countries, this programme is existential,” Browne said. “It represents a much larger percentage of their revenues than it does for Antigua and Barbuda.”
Browne pointed to countries such as Dominica, which he said would be more exposed to external shocks if citizenship programmes were curtailed or abruptly restricted.
“If you disrupt these programmes without a proper transition, you could collapse economies — especially in countries that depend on them far more heavily,” he said.
The prime minister said this was why Antigua and Barbuda has consistently advocated for reform and regulation of CIP rather than its elimination, arguing that cooperation with international partners is essential.
“We have been at the forefront of strengthening and reforming the programme,” Browne said, adding that Antigua and Barbuda has pushed for regional coordination to prevent what he described as a “race to the bottom.”
Browne said international partners must take into account the differing levels of dependence across the region, warning that one-size-fits-all approaches could have unintended and damaging consequences for smaller, more vulnerable economies.

The EU is only going to think about it own border security. They have said this in their last report. Simple as that.
Roosevelt skerrit just keep you opinion to you thieving dictator self.
This guy again.. 😂
And knowing all that, why didn’t you strengthen the “Antigua CIP” or get rid of it totally?
You knew that it’s just a small part of the revenue that came into Antigua, so why didn’t you follow the advice like people like me and get rid of it, but instead your stubborn self continued to ignore the warnings, and now we have Visa restrictions from the US and Canada, with the EU about to let down the hammer as well.
You failed your people GB, that’s what’s “plain and simple” here.
You were the one that was in all these meetings, you knew what the US and the EU was saying about the CIP, you even knew what they were saying about the criminals who have slipped through the CIP crack, so why did you let it come to this?
Do you think that these are holy men who seek the Antigua’s passport?
I hope you are not that naive?
This man always come and confess his sins after the fact. We are not here to judge you sir, we put you in place so you can see the future for us, so to speak, but you left people like me know choice but to judge you harshly, because you keep fooling the people over and over again.
Can you be truthful and be honest for once? Don’t answer that!
What, is it just for power, or are you that naive and keep getting caught with your pants down or duped?
If you knew all this(which we did as well) was it for the money that was coming to your personal pockets why you continued the CIP?
Well Antiguan citizens everywhere are tired of it. They are looked upon now as criminals when they travel because of your slack CIP and very pourous immigration system.
If anyone of your supporters are honest enough to tell you the truth, I sure hope that you would listen, because I’ve been on here telling you for a while now to strengthen up your very slack immigration system.
Wasn’t it the other day a report came out that 30% of the people in Antigua are not from Antigua?
You think that number is just some fluke? The very slack immigration system has a lot to do with it, because Antigua is not the only place in the Caribbean with many jobs or high service jobs. You have the Bahamas,Jamaica, St Thomas, the VI, St Marten, The ABC islands, many of them jobs are of many service industrial jobs, but our migration numbers double and triple some of these same islands.
So do your work and stop the talking.
We don’t need anymore confession of your guilt and failures, we want steady, smart actions from you and your band of merry men.
Get to work GB and stop the talking.. families are left without answer for this 2026 new year.
It’s your CIP or their well-being, because we all know that the CIP doesn’t benefit the average Antiguan’s. You just said it in this Article.
Your words, not mine.
” It’s only a small portion of the revenue Antigua generates”. Huuumm!
You should’ve just kept your mouth shut because we already know the truth. What other forms of revenue do we have other than taxation? We know too than it was not accidental nor coincidental that we were targeted. Everything will be revealed sooner than you think, especially the West Indies Oil Company operations. You failed to be accountable to us but we will know through your foreign interrogators. Just give it some time.
We already know this Gaston which means your 2026 Budget should be shredded.
What a stubborn and pig-headed Prime Minister we have in charge of the country. Despite all the criticism he’s had in the past about our CBI programme, Gaston Browne continues with his belligerent self.
Antiguans were originally concerned with the outsourcing to third parties for vetting procedures; the European Union were asking for more clarification on residency for CBI passport holders; and the USA have got involved and restricted travel to Antiguans.
Browne’s CBI miscalculations are hurting the innocent hardworking citizens of this country.
Chet Green, step up nah! What are you waiting for?
You’ll never have a better chance to lead your country until the UPP under the Honourable Jamal Pringle takes over.
Gaston Browne’s leadership has increasingly become untenable. Everyone can see it but he.
His delusion is real …
