PM Says U.S. Attorney Preparing Pre-Action Letter Over Alfa Nero Defamation Claim

Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister says his U.S. attorney is preparing to issue a pre-action letter to American law firm Boies Schiller Flexner, demanding US$10 million in damages for alleged defamation related to what he calls the “Alfa Nero fabrication.”

In a statement posted online, the Prime Minister said the letter will be sent within 48 hours to partner David Boies. He did not provide details on the specific statements he claims were defamatory but accused the firm of spreading false information connected to the ongoing Alfa Nero controversy.

The post also indicated that former political leader Harold Lovell will be targeted next, suggesting additional legal action may follow.

The Alfa Nero, a superyacht seized in Antigua in 2023 and later sold by the government, has remained at the centre of political, legal and international disputes, spawning multiple court challenges and public exchanges.

Further details on the planned action have not yet been released.

  1. Do people have any idea how high the legal threshold is for proving defamation? Defamation cases are also notoriously expensive to litigate.

The damages for defamation are calculated based on several factors. For example, loss of potential earnings or damages to one’s reputation. How has Gaston Browne calculated $10 million in damages? Likely, a figure plucked out of his imagination.

The constant threats to sue others is getting boring now and it is an abuse of power.

  2. The recent discovery’s have him jumping like he’s been bitten by fire ants.
You’re fucking with the Russian mob, not the Barbudans.

  3. You shoulda leave the damn super yacht alone, it never belong to you or the country in the first instance – and look whey we dey now!

I bet the hardworking Antiguans will foot the legal bills when it should be YOU, and YOU alone.

Browne doing his utmost in trying to become the worst Prime Minister since Lester Bird … and that’s saying something!

  4. … And surprise surprise, the Most Honourable Harold Lovell is next in the firing line. You couldn’t make this s#&t up if you tried.

People would tell you ah pure fiction …

  5. Another trumpian move. Seems like Gaston iss trying to turn himself into a mini trump. He and his family are using politics to enrich themselves. Hit by scandal after scandal, he runs to the courts every chance he gets with frivolous and petty cases, he belittles his opponents publicly, insulting them every chance he gets. What a inferior, packing and small man. And to top it off you can bet he is using the public’s money to pay his legal billsm

  6. Not only what Overit said Gaston being a public figure they have to prove that the I formation was published deliberately knowing it’s false if it gets to the court stage and they ain’t short of money being Russian oligarchs. Also I don’t even know why or how Lovell is involved here where is the outcry of silencing freedom of speech when this is obviously a slap lawsuit like he don’t before.

  7. @ Anansi,
Been meaning to write the same thing. The similarity between those two individuals are uncanny.
The only thing that devides them are race and country.
Plus Gaston is much more articulate than Donald Trump otherwise they are cut from the same piece of rag.

  8. Please let him sue, at least then the courts may force hin to disclose how he came by his massive wealth. I dare you to sue Big Dog!

  9. @SIM, truth ah burn ya backside.

You lickspittling tool! Keep shooting the messenger while Antigua & Barbuda spirals into an undemocratic abyss.

    You unpatriotic lackey…
