Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he does not know what caused the false positive results of some American tourists.
Browne said five of the 20 tourists who tested positive on arrival into Antigua tested negative shortly after when they returned to the United States.
The prime minister says he does not want to speculate as to what may have caused the results to be overturned when these individuals were tested by US officials.
He said the tests were done locally and are being validated by the Caribbean Public Health Agency.
Meantime, the prime minster revealed that the people who returned from the Dominican Republic are expected to be released from quarantine soon.
Browne says there is no one in Antigua currently in hospital for covid-19.
The country has recorded 68 cases since the first case in March, three people have died.

PCR tests were done on the travellers. The government has test kits from the USA.
Private testing may be from North Korea or some other place.

Wait, who says they weren’t magically healed after coming here. Maybe the beach and our strong antiguan rum aided in causing them to go from positive to negative. Maybe, just maybe, something went right.
But, if, it is infact, a possibility that the results were erroneus, then poor poor ah we. After so many months, we haven’t gotten testing right!

Yet, when a hotel sought to arrange testing, there was all kinda outcry from the minister and his ‘peeps’.

The Health Authorities in any country, during an epidemic or pandemic, cannot treat any and every test carried out privately as reliable.
Private labs cannot issue official results unless they are authorized to do so by public health authorities, and that’s only when the tests being done are approved tests, and the conditions are satisfactory.

There should not be the assumption that the faulty testing was in Antigua. It is just as likely that the testing was wrong in America.

False negatives are known to happen.
After all, 15 still showed positive. So why would the 5 be necessarily correct?
Dr Knight they missed the part of the Miami saga where it was pointed out that all samples were placed in the same bag and then thrown in a vehicle.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the US testing is flawed. America’s handling of this health event has been a disaster from day one. The first time they tried to make their own test kits instead of relying on those from the WHO, they failed miserably. There are scores of people in the US that were told they were negative for covid-19 while having obvious symptoms including breathing difficulty. The fact is that a positive test is very much dependent on whether the swab gets a good sample of material from the posterior nasopharynx. If not, you can test negative while actually having the virus.

The tests done in Florida are more than likely VERY VERY VERY VERY flawed, DUH!!!
You could be tested for Covid-19 today.It comes back negative.Then you could be tested again in there days later and the results are positive for Covid-19.No one really knows how this virus works.I heard you people in Antigua say the heat kills it.If that is the case.Why are there so many cases in all the Southern and Western States.Where the average temperatures are over 100 degrees daily.Just wear your masks and physical distancing as much as possible daily.Washing your hands and using sanitary wipes would also help.Do not touch your face with dirty hands.Those are the advice of medical brains.Just follow them and chances are Covid-19 would not cross your path.
Absolutely, the USA is at fault here, and is not to be trusted regarding anything Covid. My God, today alone Florida has 11 thousand new cases, and that’s just the beginning. What a mess. Even the EU has banned them from travelling there. So far they have 130,000 DEAD. They have totally failed in the Covid fight. What a shame. Many countries have done better, including our own little Antigua. The citizens and government and health care frontliners are to be commended.
I think the labs across the entire world have been duped by this virus. Here, America, other Caribbean countries, the struggle is real.
