PM Says COP Would Have Been an Excellent Opportunity for Pringle to Network
Prime Minister Gaston Browne suggested that Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle missed a valuable chance to network on the world stage, noting during the Browne and Browne show that the COP30 environment in Belém, Brazil, would have been an “excellent opportunity” for him.
The comment came during a light exchange after the programme reviewed Antigua and Barbuda’s participation in the global climate summit. As the hosts questioned whether Pringle would have been able to navigate the diplomatic setting, Browne said the event offered significant potential for political engagement.
“I think it would have been an excellent opportunity,” Browne said.
When the hosts asked whether Pringle could have effectively networked among international leaders, Browne responded that he would have made an introduction.
“I would have introduced him,” he said.
He added that if the roles were reversed and he were invited by an opposing administration to attend a major global forum, he would not hesitate to go.
“If it was reverse, and I was actually invited by the Prime Minister’s lead opposition, I would have gone and I would have introduced myself as the incoming Prime Minister, accompanied by the outgoing Prime Minister,” Browne said.
The exchange followed Browne’s broader discussion on climate diplomacy, including his engagements with global leaders and his call for stronger action to support vulnerable states facing climate-related displacement.
