Barrymore Cleanup Underway Following PM’s Intervention
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed the removal of large quantities of debris from the Barrymore Hotel site, following a public appeal for action during his Pointe FM programme.
Speaking on his June 7 broadcast, Browne revealed that the site—previously used to store refuse relocated from the Booby Alley area—was cleared last week after his direct engagement with a community member identified as “George.”
“Last week, I called out my friend George, who took all the rubbish from Booby Alley to Barrymore,” Browne said. “Anyway, he cooperated with us. We were able to remove a couple of chock-loads of rubbish out of Barrymore last week.”
The Prime Minister acknowledged that his approach may sometimes appear unorthodox, but insisted it stems from a desire to improve living conditions and ensure that government-led development projects—such as the new condominium complex at Booby Alley—are not undermined.
“We want changes for the better. I want to leave this country significantly better than how I inherited it,” he said. “We want action. We want results.”
Browne has repeatedly expressed concern that areas targeted for urban renewal could fall back into disrepair if not properly managed and maintained by residents. He warned against allowing criminal elements or negligent behaviors to take root in newly rehabilitated spaces.
The cleanup of Barrymore comes amid broader efforts to transform the Booby Alley district into a modern housing community, supported by a $50 million investment secured by the government.
Browne’s remarks also reflect his continued use of public forums to pressure individuals and agencies into action, a style he defends as results-driven leadership.
“We cannot allow them to come and turn the place back into a dilapidated community,” he added.

That site should’ve been cleaned up years ago.
Dem need to deal with it once and for all—not patch work.
