An entity plans to challenge the government in court next week to seize the $40 million collected from the sale of the Alfa Nero, Prime Minister Gaston Browne revealed.
“We got the $40 million, and we used the money to pay our debt. I am told that some entity is going to court next week to seize the money; that’s fine, it is already spent, so I don’t know what they are going to steal,” Browne remarked.
However, he stated the money has already been spent. The government sold the vessel to a Turkish billionaire, using the funds to pay off the superyacht’s accumulated debt over the past two years.
Despite initial obstacles that blocked the boat’s sale and caused the top two bidders to withdraw, the transaction was eventually finalized. Browne, who also serves as the country’s finance minister, noted that although several bids had been received over the years, they were deemed insufficient.

“The Turkish billionaire who now owns the Alfa Nero’s first offer was US$25 million,” Browne said. The buyer eventually increased the bid to US$40 million. Just over a year ago, the boat was valued at about US$120 million. Besides depreciation, the superyacht had accrued significant debt, with fuel costs alone exceeding US$3 million.

It’s an amusing how they stole the people boat, sold it and now feel entitled. I am really ashamed of this situation.
Can you imagine how this makes our country look to the rest of the world? There are still pirates in the Caribbean!!
Even a blind man cld have predicted this. Hope he got a plan
Gaston is a crazy man. So he believes that the challenger(s) are going to say, ” ok, ee done spend de money, so lef Dem”. Really?? Antiguans better get ready for the fallout from this sale. It seems like one way or another, it is going to cost us dearly again for Gaston and ABLP greed and foolishness.
This boy is really playing with our business. He makes it sound like it’s $0.25. Where is the accountability? This is just why he is so desperate to hold on to the reigns of power.
Nothing this Risperdal dunce ever makes sense. What debt did he pay off specifically? How the hell there is a 4 5% finders fee for a stolen yacht? He must think we’re all as stupid as the Labourites.
That’s why he paid Anthony Smith 6 million to remain in power so he can chat all kinds of sh++t and hide the real truth.
Money just disappears with this guy holding the public purse.
You idiot. Whether you spent the money or not you’ll have to find it. Poor people again.
Keep playing with these Russian. Hear Putin favors poison .
So if you spent 10mil in the boats debt/commission, that still leaves you with $30mil, so where is that 30mil going to?
Bwoi we really have a math genius running Antigua finance’s to rarse..🤣 😂
Money already spent and the public saw nothing lol. Yuh cyan’t make this up.
I knew that was going to happen…
Many of us warned Gaston ‘Dictator’ Browne not to get involved with the Alpha Nero super yacht that was bought and for by someone else.
Listen to this equivalent scenario:
There are many many abandoned buildings in our eyesore of a town called St John’s. Why didn’t Gaston ‘Dictator’ Browne and the ABLP do the same type of SEQUESTRATION, not only to accumulate money for the treasury, but also to have a great opportunity to clean up Town once and for all?!
If the Prime Minister had a damn brain 🧠 he would be dangerous … but wait!!! 🤬
sanctioned (deported)… that ended up in Antigua, should be SOLD…
WRITING STUPIDNESS IS HARD…
Risperdal anyone??🤣🤣
