PM Predicts “Serpent Will Be Deposed” in St. George

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has predicted the political downfall of opposition MP Algernon “Serpent” Watts, declaring that the United Progressive Party (UPP) representative for St. George “will be deposed” at the next general election.

Browne made the remark during his weekend radio programme Browne and Browne, shortly after confirming Michael Freeland as the Labour Party’s candidate for the constituency. Freeland, who was recently appointed to the Senate, emerged victorious in the party’s internal primary for St. George.

While expressing confidence in Freeland’s chances, Browne launched a scathing critique of the sitting MP.

“He is a very cruel man,” the prime minister said, accusing Watts of publicly humiliating constituents who seek assistance. “You don’t help people by exposing them. That’s not leadership—it’s an abuse of power.”

Browne went further, calling Watts “vacuous” and “empty of ideas,” suggesting that his popularity as a media personality has not translated into tangible results for the people of St. George.

“He has nothing to offer,” Browne said. “Absolutely nothing. And that’s why I’m saying here today: Serpent will be deposed.”

The prime minister’s remarks are part of an early election-season offensive, as both major political parties prepare for the next general polls. The ABLP has already begun unveiling its candidates, while the UPP is expected to defend several marginal seats, including St. George.

Freeland, a former parliamentary secretary, is expected to begin his campaign in earnest in the coming weeks.

No date has been set for the next general election, but Browne’s comments signal a sharpened tone as the battle for key constituencies intensifies.

  1. Serpant only ran because of the challenge Gaston had put out to him. The cards were stacked in his favor so he won. Serpant has not graduated his mind into knowing that what the people also want for him is an advocate for their cause in Parliament. Instead he hides and run his mouth only on his radio station. He is like one of those dogs that will bark loudly when they are behind a fence but will quickly cover if you pick up a pebble and attempt to throw at them.

  2. @gaston: thinking out my head serpent will be deposed not so sure, but the problems I caused for Antigua and especially the barbudans am sure to be deposed, when the people rise up PLH or the rich Syrian family could stop them, it happened in 2004.

  3. … And critical thinking Antiguans that demand change for the better in the potential of this great country of ours (no thanks to Browne & Co) that predict the ABLP will suffer their biggest defeat since polling figures begun.

Because we’ve now awaken and demand:

    (1) Financial transparencies (2), the completion of our road infrastructure (3), 24 hour policing (4), lower crime rates (5), equality in health and hospital care (6), resolve the unsolved murders (7), the completion of an island-wide water supply system (8), the repayment of outstanding salaries, overtime and pensions (9), the requirement of more investigative journalists like George Wehner and Nikki Phoenix (10), and resolve the constant power cuts across the country.

I could easily find many more issues (and don’t get me on the foul smelling MALODOROUS eyesore called St John’s).

But the above is a good start …

  4. You have ended our on the losing side of everyone of your predictions. When will you learn?
You called on seroent to throw his hat in the political ring and he was sure to lose. Serpent was the largest winner at the polls.
You predicted your party would win 17 nil in the last elections. You barely survived. A selfish man in City East saved your political career. You were six votes from being relegated to the dustbin.
When will you call a labour party convention and make a prediction on the winner? Chet would make you Minister of Cooks Landfill.
You have a dismal record in predictions. So come for Serpent. Make your predictions against Serpent.
Leave City West and go to St George to ensure Serpent’s defeat. I am sure if you attempted that move you would regret it for the best of your life.

  5. Eldread is this your version of weekend post-partum? Make sense for change nuh Jeez!
And yo those joker journalists of AN/ANR who don’t you get off your lazy behinds and go in search of real news instead of cuddling up with your radio on a Saturday afternoon, tape recorder, pen and pad in hand gulping down every word the PM says during his weekly no-holds-barred radio program on 99.1FM. Everybody listens to that program, even his most strident critics and haters. Are you guys paid? All you do is slice and dice., especially what the PM says, strip it of its meat and substance then toss the remains to a hungry carnivorous public for their daily consumption. No wonder so much ignorance abounds. But then, maybe that’s the intention!

  6. The 🐍🐍 snake cannot debate to save his life. Full a big chat on radio and Facebook but flop in the Parliament

Miss Knight a he mouthpiece to cuss out UPP and undermine Pringle

  7. Gaston has the word DEPOSED chipped into his brains, since he, his wife Pixie, son and others have been SUBPOENAED by the Russian Bratva lawyers to expose his bare, you know what under oath.
When the Russian Bratva finishes exposing Gaston which will in turn DEPOSE of the accomplices in ABLP, Serpent and the UPP will enjoy the momentum of 2003 going into the 2004 General Elections. They had better make, better uses of the Electorate Trust this time around.

Gaston and the ABLP Executive are hastily putting Candidates in place with the intent, to call a SNAP ELECTION IN 2026, to get around the backlash from the Alfa Nero lawsuits and possibly the Odebrecht Corruption Case fallout’s.
He hoping and praying while constipated from all of the trauma and drama of the Alfa Nero Saga, the ABLP could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and hold off any local ENQUIRY into Alfa Nero, Antigua Airways with the drowned Africans and LIAT.
Your deflections as defense won’t work. Not even if you’re doing the Flames “workey! Workey!”

  8. Briggo Junior should no be complacent and be fooled by the PM predictions, he asserted with SMS, and the Labour Party got whipping twice.
Serpent got an overwhelming majority and turned the entire northern region to blue apart from on

The North gave ALP a clear message…Red dead in the north

  9. Gaston Browne, I left Antigua 46 years ago. I listened to Observer Radio and you were on it every Saturday with Serpent. I thought you were employed by Observer. You along with some who have switched party were in the Snake Pit,Mornings, Noons and Nights. Now all of you have nothing but hatred for Serpent. Who help your Charlie Chaplin arse, politically.
