Prime Minister Gaston Browne has commended Information and Communications Technology Minister Melford Nicholas for taking public criticism “in stride,” saying members of his Cabinet must be prepared to answer directly to the public.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM, Browne said ministers cannot expect to avoid scrutiny and should not hide behind the prime minister when faced with criticism.
He noted that Nicholas has handled public complaints maturely, describing his response to criticism as measured and responsible .
The prime minister said accountability is a central feature of governance and insisted that Cabinet members must be willing to defend their portfolios openly.
Browne added that public office requires resilience and transparency, and that ministers should engage directly with citizens rather than retreating from criticism.
The remarks came amid broader discussions about governance, service delivery and the responsibilities of elected officials to respond to public concerns.
