SOURCE: Associates Times: Prime Minister Gaston Browne urged OECS governments for a regional shift toward entrepreneurship, innovation and local ownership to increase its GDP to 7%. Speaking in a radio interview, he said that with the growth of regional GDP, the economy of Antigua and Barbuda will rise from $6 billion to $12 billion within a decade.

He unveiled his plan to double the economy of Antigua and Barbuda over the next 10 years and added that there is an urgent need to transform policies and adopt new approaches for the growth of the economy. PM Browne added that if the OECS gets successful in achieving the level of growth, then the country will grow and transform.

While advocating for a new strategy, PM Browne stressed that there is a need to adopt digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and smarter service delivery. He mentioned that these things can be used as tools to accelerate the economy in Antigua and Barbuda and across the wider Caribbean.

He also called for transformational leadership across the region and stressed that the shift in strategy would be helpful in tackling geopolitical and climate-related headwinds.

Focus on Local business

The central agenda of the plans of PM Browne is the development of locally owned business infrastructure. He said that the local business must be given importance to enhance economic conditions and the GDP.

PM Browne stressed that the foreign-dominated ownership structures result in profits being repatriated abroad. He said that the conditions have limited national wealth accumulation which is a keen factor for the GDP growth.

The OECS governments must adopt the approach to promote both individual and collective wealth. PM Browne added that there is a need for a more entrepreneurial approach that could be a critical shift for the resilient prosperity of the region.

PM Browne added that there is a need to increase local wealth and capture more of the profits domestically. It will help in turning incremental progress into exponential economic transformation as it will see higher tax revenues, dividends and overall GDP growth.

  1. We can get a 47% increase if ubtake back or natural resources from foreign businesses & making it antiguan again for the people

  2. More pie in the sky figures from Prime Minister Browne, and here’s another promise of jam tomorrow in 10 years time.

Anyone can throw out bogus percentage figures at a whim like Browne.

In the past couple of weeks, all Antiguans have heard are 5 and 10 year growth spurts with large so-called high yields – even Alvin Hall, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates or even Richard Branson makes such wild, wayward and outlandish forecasts.

None of the above would take any financial advice from a politician. Fact!

  3. Are you talking to those who voted for you GB? Because when those who came to you knocking on your governments doors, you shut them in their faces!

You’re not an impartial leader GB, and we all know that..so stop the hypocrisy.

You’re just all talk and full of yourself.

What the citizens are looking for, is for you to fix the crime problem in Antigua, so that the people and their hard earned money can feel safe in their homes, whether it’s $2 they have or millions.

But we know that running a safe country is not your strong suit..and that’s what is needed more than ever right now, not more tax revenue to go into the pockets of you and your cronies.

This pompous fool really has no clue at all..just all big talk and delusions.

What’s the purpose of having all this money in your pockets, when you can’t even spend it in peace? Just backwards thinking.

This joker thinks he’s really the voice for all the financial heads in the Caribbean.. 😂. What a joke.

  4. So true @ Islanman26. Gaston Browne is currently doing some major deflection, because gun crimes in Antigua is now spiralling out of control, and he hasn’t got a clue about how to put a halt to it.

Earlier in the year when he adopted a softly softly approach to crime fighting, many of us were very sceptical to say the least – even a 16-year-old who recently lost his life after an attempted robbery was put on some sort of rehabilitation program, and then left.

Browne isn’t up to the job, and Antiguans URGENTLY need someone who can …

  5. @brix.

And when we call out this PM, they call us haters, all the while not understanding that Antigua is heading towards an anarchist state if this gun problem is not controlled immediately.

Citizens will soon start to think that they have no other choice but to take matters in their own hands..

These jokers, like the many that comes on here and praise this delusional leader, care not to see that he is woefully ineffective in keeping the hard working business and regular citizens safe.

They think Antigua is making steps forward, when in effect the people feels like victims in their own homes.

Sad state of affairs right now with all this delusional thinking from this administration and it’s followers.
