Prime Minister Gaston Browne has fired back at political activist George Wehner, who launched a scathing attack on Minister of Works Maria Browne over ongoing repairs to the Sir Sidney Walling Highway.
In a strongly worded Facebook post, Wehner branded Maria Browne the “worst Minister of Works ever”, accusing her of overseeing wasteful spending and poor-quality work. He pointed to the fact that sections of the recently resurfaced Sir Sidney Walling, Pares, Glanvilles, and Willikies highways are now being dug up.
“Having recently expended tens of millions of tax dollars in the resurfacing of continuous portions of the Sir Sidney Walling, Pares, Glanvilles, and Willikies Highways; Minister Maria Browne is now ripping up main sections of the said highway from Willikies to St John’s, thereby creating an uneven patchwork of the poorly constructed roadway,” Wehner wrote.
He went further to question whether this is the standard taxpayers should expect, stating, “Is this the substandard level of work the taxpayers are to expect from Maria Browne for the $100,000,000.00 we are forced to pay?”
Responding on his own social media page, Prime Minister Browne dismissed the criticism and defended the Works Minister, calling Wehner a “moron.”
“It’s our distinguished, highly performing Minister of Works, who got her engineer to assess the quality of the work; failure was determined and CO Williams was mandated to replace that section of the road at their cost,” the Prime Minister said.
He added, “Minister Maria Browne for the win. Eat your heart out.”
The Prime Minister insisted the corrective works come at no additional cost to taxpayers, following quality assessments that identified faults with the previous roadworks.
The construction company, CO Williams, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the matter. The Ministry of Works has also not confirmed how long the remedial work will take.
The exchange has drawn significant public attention, with residents voicing mixed reactions over the quality of road infrastructure and how such disputes are handled in the public sphere.

B…both the government and the contractor are at fault for the PPQ – Piss Poor Quality of the work(s) which has now led to costly repairs.
On any major Highway or road projects, there MUST be an INSPECTOR (quality & safety), on site at all times to avoid these types of delays and or redoing, of the work. Maria Browne immaturity and incompetence is shinning on this like a 5000W flood light, during a hurricane blackout at midnight.
The true test is just around the corner for all of these “new” roads which are being constructed across the island because, one thing about poorly constructed projects, the CRACKS (not the cocaine & baking soda mixture) will begin showing up immediately. The PPP – Piss Poor Planning and PPM – Piss Poor Management, of these projects rest peacefully, at the manicured feet of Maria Browne.

If you said that you and your administration are that transparent, why did it take for George to criticize your wife for you come out and state your socalled facts? There’s no speculation here, the dishonest pretenders are also witnesses to what’s happening with our roads and the way they are ‘burning money ‘ but they have to earn their keep by displaying their loyalty. The feeder road was being used by plenty vehicles this afternoon, all of us asked to reverse, drive in bush ( impossible in a car) by very young men who I felt sorry for – they were clueless… And no stop/go sign or flag or hi-vis jacket.
Bare confusion which rightly led to tempers flaring as no-one could understand why this work was happening over the OAS dates.
