Senior leaders tour ABDF hydroponics project and CHOGM preparations

The Governor-General, Sir Rodney Williams, and Prime Minister Gaston Browne have visited a hydroponic farming project operated by the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) to assess its progress and contribution to national development.

The tour was led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, who outlined how the initiative is supporting sustainable food production and strengthening food security in Antigua and Barbuda.

The hydroponic project forms part of broader efforts to reduce reliance on food imports and promote innovative agricultural practices, particularly in a climate-vulnerable region.

During the visit, Mr Browne also toured the CHOGM Planning Course being conducted at ABDF headquarters.

He was briefed on the Force’s preparations and strategic planning ahead of the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which Antigua and Barbuda is due to host.

The ABDF has been playing a key role in logistical planning and coordination for the event, which is expected to bring regional and international leaders to the country.

Officials said the visit underscored the government’s support for the Defence Force’s expanding role in national development, food resilience and major international engagements.
