Prime Minister Gaston Browne said Antigua & Barbuda is opposed to any initiative that may encourage hostilities in the region.
He was commenting on the two Tu-160 bombers landed in Venezuela last Monday in a Russian show of support for the government of President Nicolás Maduro.
“This hemisphere must remain a hemisphere of peace”, the Prime Minister Browne said.
“We understand the dangers and notwithstanding the fact that Venezuela has been and continues to be a close ally of Antigua & Barbuda, we are very concerned about that development and we are hoping that is does not escalate into anything serious”, he said.
The Prime Minister said if it does escalate “we definitely abhor any form of participation by Russia in creating any provocation in this hemisphere to destabilize the hemisphere and to literally plunge us into any form of military conflict”.
