POINTE XPRESS: Prime Minister Gaston Browne and his administration have voiced strong support for the development of a Nikki Beach Resort and Spa Luxury property at Jolly Beach, with a US$400 million investment backing the project.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony on Wednesday, PM Browne emphasized that the new resort would significantly boost Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry. He highlighted the project’s transformative potential, positioning it as a cornerstone of the nation’s tourism offerings.
“Our goal is to elevate Antigua and Barbuda’s hospitality to the next level,” Browne stated, outlining his administration’s vision of establishing the country as a premier luxury destination. The Nikki Beach Resort, he said, is set to become a flagship development, alongside other high-end ventures already underway or planned.
The prime minister also noted that his government has successfully attracted considerable investment in tourism, including the Nikki Beach project, which demonstrates the Ayre Group’s confidence in the country.
The Ayre Group has played a key role in investing in Antigua and Barbuda over the last decade, funding projects such as the Canada Place building and the Tamarind Hills retreat.
Browne reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the economy, enabling more citizens to move into the middle class as their financial circumstances improve. He stressed that the Nikki Beach investment aligns with the objectives of both the government and the Calvin Ayre Group, benefiting the entire population.

Looks like PM Gaston Browne is at it again, blowing his trumpet over the arrival of the Nikki Beach Resort. Don’t get me wrong, a US$400 million investment sounds terrific, but let’s take a step back and ask ourselves who’s really benefiting here?
Sure, Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry will get a shiny new feather in its cap, but will this luxury development genuinely elevate the country’s hospitality game or just widen the gap between the haves and have-nots? Browne can talk the talk about moving citizens into the middle class, but actions speak louder than words.
Let’s hope this investment isn’t just another case of big money patting itself on the back while everyday Antiguans and Barbudans struggle to make ends meet. Time will tell if the Nikki Beach Resort actually trickles down prosperity to the people or simply becomes another playground for the wealthy. Fingers crossed, PM Browne, because Antigua and Barbuda deserves better than empty promises.
I know one thing for sure that anything Calvin Ayre is involved in will provide high paying Jobs for the working class. Management cannot mess around are ill treat his employees. He plays no politics and don’t discriminate. The benefits to his employees and their children are awesome. At his business the working environment are second to none. Daycare facilities to the children of the employees. Medical insurance to all his workers.
His social programs are phenomenal. We all are aware of the amount of assistance given by the Ayre foundation for health assistance. His helicopters are always available to use in search and rescue. He provides transportation to burnt victims to Guadeloupe.
All I am asking the government is to stay away from this project and allow the developers to do their thing. They hate politicians getting too involved in their business.
