Prime Minister Gaston Browne said: Retail banditry is become a major problem in our country.

Though inflation has fallen below three percent in the US, where we import most of our products, our retailers continue to price gouge their customers.

If this opportunistic pricing and exploitation of consumers continue, our government may be forced to establish branches of CMC island wide, to drive down costs.

A word to the wise is sufficient.”

  1. Look into stores that are selling expired goods also, they should be off the shelves. Before the expired date the prices could drop afterwards when it expire remove from the shelves

  2. PM your 6000 public workers should start producing and earn their pay. Knowing you could say these things your Consumer Affairs Department should have been on top of these issues like a hawk. You need not to put a CMC in every branch. One is more then enough. We need a strong consumer watchdog organization. The people in that department are not doing their job. They are failing the consumers. I could do a better job. If e.g. I get a copy of an import invoice from Custom lets say from Epicurean, all I need to do is go straight to the source and request pricing of the same items and see if it is they are reporting the right price. Given their price build up I would be able to see what margin they are operating at. And if it is concluded that they are involved in price gauging than law makers can do something about it. Go to parliament and pass laws so that the police can do their work.
