PM Browne wants UNGA President Espinosa to Head the OAS

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said María Fernanda Espinosa, the current President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), would do a better job at running the Organization of American States (OAS) than the current OAS Secretary-General.

“Presently we have a problem within the OAS. We have a Secretary-General who is an authority unto himself. He’s destroying all the rules of the OAS, undermining all of the values of the OAS and I want to signal to all the countries in this hemisphere that perhaps the best person to hold that office at this time is none other than Maria Espinosa”, he said.

Browne made the comments at the recent dedication of the UNOPS Science and Innovation Park on Burma Road, where Espinosa was one of the speakers.

He showered praises on the PGA saying she has shown “global leadership on this issue of plastic pollution and eliminating the use of plastics, especially single-use plastics”.

“I want to commend you on behalf of all of us especially those of us here in the Caribbean who are dependent on our oceans for tourism in particular”, he said adding that she has been an inspiration for many women in the hemisphere.

“So, Madam President, I know that your tenure as the PGA will come to an end and I hope you will consider the offer of Antigua & Barbuda to nominate you jointly with the government of Ecuador to serve as the next Secretary-General of the OAS”, the Prime Minister announced.

“That’s not an idle request. On the basis that your government would have agreed, Antigua & Barbuda will join you jointly and make a recommendation to get somebody sensible with the skills, with the emotional intelligence and someone who is obviously uniting in her discourse to bring the entire hemisphere together rather than having the present divisive situation that exists at the OAS”, Browne declared.

  1. Browne has said a lot recently. It is a good thing the world does not revolve around him!

  2. The PM is lending is voice to issues that are too big for Antigua. When the big dogs barking the puppies must stay quite. The way he talking he going to cause sanctions to be placed on Antigua. You see how Trump just stop all cruises from going to Cuba. That one sanction alone would kill us. So to the PM I say stay in your lane.

    • This is the classic example of a mental slave. Stay quiet, accept the crumbs and be very thankful. Fortunately, the Prime Minister is an intelligent and progressive individual, always willing to stand up for the downtrodden and dispossessed. It is a shame that in 2019, there are still persons living in the stone age.

    • His supporters will follow him all the way to Hell not realising it’s them who will be staying because he has enough money and assets to buy his way out.

  3. Do you bow to the rulers of darkness just to get a piece of bread and exist under captivity living for nothing or do you stand on your principles and at least live as a free man and die for something . The OAS president is an American puppet , definitely on the wrong side of history with emotionally retarded trump.
