PM Browne Supports Stronger Public Education on Child Safety

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called for increased public education on child safety following the tragic murder of nine-year-old Chantel Crump. Speaking on his weekly Browne and Browne Show, Browne emphasized the need for widespread awareness programs to help protect children from potential dangers.

Acknowledging that many young children already understand concepts like “Stranger Danger,” Browne stressed the importance of making safety education more accessible, particularly in vulnerable communities where families may have fewer resources.

“We have to teach our children not to go anywhere with strangers,” Browne stated. “Many of our young children know this, but we need to make sure this message is pervasive, especially in poorer communities where they may not have access to educational programming.”

The Prime Minister suggested that public service announcements and school-based initiatives should be expanded to reinforce safety messages. He also encouraged parents to be more vigilant about their children’s whereabouts and interactions, acknowledging that some families have limited options for childcare and may have to trust the system for their children’s safety.

Browne further discussed the possibility of leveraging technology to enhance child protection. He welcomed proposals to introduce mobile tracking applications that allow parents to monitor their children’s movements and receive alerts in case of emergencies. Additionally, he confirmed that law enforcement would work on implementing an Amber Alert-style system to provide real-time notifications when a child goes missing.

The government’s renewed focus on child safety comes in response to heightened public concerns following recent crimes. Browne assured the public that his administration remains committed to strengthening security measures and ensuring a safer environment for children.

As the nation grapples with the tragedy, Browne urged communities to come together to support vulnerable families and equip children with the knowledge they need to stay safe.

  1. Two suggestions: is it possible for our school busses to take time out and pick up and drop off these young kids closer to their houses? Secondly if we gonna drop them all off at one spot, how about as parents we have an adult or someone of higher age waiting to walk them home.

  2. How many times have I expressed police officers in dressed/formal (less threatening) uniform should go to a different school every week educating students on their safety and community safety?

How many times did I mentioned this would also deter outside threats? How many times did I say this will also give police and leaders a chance at hearing the perspective, wants and needs of children and youths.

How many times have I simply ask for these government officials to listen to experts? How many lives are losses because of ABLP failure to listen and COP failure to listen to me?

Sadly, more death to come, as they will never listen and act accordingly.
