Prime Minister Gaston Browne has suggested privatizing the 200-acre Diamonds Estate, proposing the creation of twenty 10-acre farms with water resources for private farming.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne show, he noted that the government-run estate has not significantly contributed to food security.
While privatization is being considered, plans are also underway to assess the feasibility of constructing ponds on the property to address water challenges.
Browne stated that additional long boom excavators would be acquired to support farmers in building these ponds.
The estate, previously managed by the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC), has faced financial struggles, leading to workforce reductions and a slowdown in operations.

I hope the government ensures that it doesn’t just benefit a few, but rather the community as a whole.
Diamonds Estate for farming sounds like a good move to boost local agriculture and create jobs, This can be a game changer for the economy.
So if the Agricultural Development Corporation has faced that kind of financial struggle, why are we pretending that individual farmers without proper intervention from government can make any meaningful impact in the field of agriculture ?
