Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, used his first day at the 80th United Nations General Assembly to showcase the country’s achievements as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) and push for climate justice.

Speaking to international media, Browne highlighted the challenges SIDS face, including climate finance, adaptation, and governance, while emphasising Antigua and Barbuda’s progress as an example of small nations leading on the global stage.

He reaffirmed the country’s role in creating the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS) and promoting the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI), urging its adoption worldwide to improve access to climate funding.

The event, which brought together world leaders, policymakers, and civil society groups, produced a ten-year plan for sustainable development for island states.

Browne stressed Antigua and Barbuda’s dual role as both a vulnerable nation and a driver of international policy.

The country’s organisation of the conference, from high-level dialogues to cultural showcases, drew praise and reinforced its reputation as a reliable partner in global diplomacy.

  1. So Gatson Brownes legacy when he leaves office, would be that he champion’s climate Justice?

😂..you just have to laugh sometimes with this guy. Can’t believe Antiguan’s are spending all this money sending this joker all over the world over a hoax.

He just keeps bamboozling the foolish people that voted for this joker to be a leader.

    Lead who?

Antigua is falling apart at the seems, and this man is masquerading around the world peddling this foolishness.

  2. The MVI could be the single most important reform for small states since independence. Browne is right to push it at the UN.

  3. SIDS4 was a diplomatic and logistical triumph. The fact that Antigua pulled it off so smoothly has boosted its credibility on the world stage.

  4. Global leaders can no longer dismiss small islands as powerless. Antigua and Barbuda is showing that leadership isn’t about size, it’s about vision.

  5. I hear you @Islanman26.

Gaston Browne is well on his way to becoming Antigua & Barbuda’s dictators-in-chief; and all because his supporters cannot – or will not – hold him to account for anything at all!

You only have to look at how they’ve not responded to Browne totally ignoring the heartfelt pleas of the citizens to address the crime wave we are currently living under, and also how he, the Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin and Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers are going to stem the tide.

What a dereliction of high profile duties!

IF THESE 3 CAN’T, WHO CAN BOSS?

  6. Prime Minister Browne is absolutely right vulnerability must be part of the equation for climate finance. Small islands cannot keep paying for a crisis they did not create.

  7. Hosting SIDS4 so successfully and now carrying that momentum to the UN is a big win for Antigua and Barbuda. Well done

  8. SIDS organization,Me say give me the money for the mangrove PLH destroyed over Barbuda including the bird sanctuary for golf course for a few elites whites.
