PM Browne Says $10M Recovered in Vehicle Scandal Probe
Prime Minister Gaston Browne says one of the car dealers involved in the recent government vehicle procurement controversy has agreed to repay $10 million to the state.
In a Facebook post, Browne wrote that restitution had been secured, and that a second dealer is currently under audit, with the expectation that “a few more millions” will also be recovered.
The announcement marks the first confirmed recovery of funds since revelations that millions was spent on vehicles outside of proper procurement channels. Browne did not name the dealer involved in the repayment agreement.
He contrasted the current government’s pursuit of restitution with what he described as “hundreds of millions stolen under the UPP administration with no prospect of recovery.”
The audit into the remaining dealer continues as authorities seek to determine the full extent of financial irregularities tied to the procurement.

If the car dealer agrees to restitution of a billion it confirms his complicity and guilt.
It doesn’t mean that an offense was not committed.
It makes the state’s case easier to prosecute white collar crimes.
There are tens of young men in prison.
Why?
They stole items valued at less than a thousand dollars which was recovered.
Who does the prime minister want to protect?

Restitution does not negate a criminal act.
It is obvious that the fury from Gaston is just reverse psychology aimed at protecting himself and his wife.

Sorry but that $10m I strongly suspect is but a mere drop in the bucket. This scandal reeks to high heaven and the government’s readiness to accept this paltry sum as restitution SOUNDS FISHY to me. I therefore join the call for an immediate official audit into this major theft of taxpayers’ money. This government has a history of conducting audits but when the main culprit(s) turn(s) out to be a Party supporter, the matter is swept under the carpet. $10m MUST BE A TYPO.; it should probably read $100m!!!
It is nice that they are repaying $10 million in restitution but how much did they get away with and how long has this scheme been in operation? Does government have any idea of its true loss over the years? It is sad that we are throwing Harney under the bus in what is clearly a scheme far bigger than them alone. Only a thorough forensic investigation will do.

This is totally unacceptable. I demand to know how much was assessed. I am hearing over one hundred million. So 10 million is a joke. We need transparency NOW. It is time that the people of this country demand accountability. This is a country where thieves are celebrated and rewarded. The new junior minister of Works was rewarded for skullduggery when she was at the PM’s office.
If the PM didn’t mentioned the car dealer, how comes ANR saying Harney Motors agreed to pay 10 Million in restitution. If that is false, Harney motors should sue ANR for public mischief.
