PM Browne Signals Intent to Sue Over “Outlandish” Allegations in Alfa Nero Yacht Sale

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced his intention to take legal action against individuals he accuses of spreading “outlandish” and “baseless” allegations related to the US$40 million sale of the Alfa Nero superyacht.

Speaking on ABS last week, Browne dismissed claims that US$10 million from the sale was missing, stating that all relevant documents — including the contract, wire transfers, and redacted beneficiary accounts — had already been made public and shared with international media.

“Maybe they did not recognize that the information was already in the public domain,” he said, adding that the government re-circulated the documents, including to the Associated Press.

He said that after critics were confronted with the facts, they shifted their narrative, now claiming the yacht was sold for US$50 million, with the suggestion that US$10 million had been hidden in a deal between the buyer and former owners.

“If that is the case, why don’t they bring forward the transfer details of the $50 million?” he challenged.

The Prime Minister labeled the evolving claims a “fishing expedition,” asserting that there is no litigation or court ruling against him or his family. “I don’t own any assets outside of Antigua and Barbuda,” he said.

Browne argued that the allegations are part of a broader campaign to shame and defame him and his administration. “They are trying to shame us in public, to undermine us in the national community,” he said.

“That is why I would have said very clearly that I reserve my right to take these individuals to court — and I certainly will.”

He also issued a warning to citizens amplifying the allegations. “I have an obligation as Prime Minister to protect our citizens,” he said.

“But if you’re going to get outlandish and accuse me of all of these outlandish allegations — not a scintilla of evidence has been provided on any of them — then you may land yourself in legal problems.”

Describing the allegations as “fantasy fabrications,” Browne said they have no legal merit but are being used to stir public distrust. “It is not going anywhere,” he added.

  2. The best people to start suing are the Russians. File a Counterclaim against them, since you are so willing to sue.
The Russians are coming after you personally because it seems like, they have all intentions of breaking your bank. This is high stakes poker in the Courtroom. Checkout how cool, calm and collective the Russians are; while you’re ranting and raving while subjecting the Nation to more pain & suffering.
The RUSSIANS are going to break your bank. Once they can prove what they’re attempting in the Federal Courts in America, the same America, that helped to put the Nation in this spot, the Russians are hoping to use you as an example and break your bank. We hope the Nation can see past your temper tantrums.
Where is Maria Bird Browne she should be abje to face the press for questioning?

  3. And we will put on a million BBQ s and cake sale and hire the very same lawyer and investigating team that’s taking him to court.

  4. If he sues, he will open up the door for folks to subpoena his financial records for them to prove truth or falsity of their statement.

Also, as a public official, there must be, hopefully in Antigua law, malice (the person harboring a doubt what they are saying is false). This is a very hard standard to meet and rightfully so. So that public officials can be held accountable.

If this is not the law for public figures, then it is even more horrible for the country.

  5. All a man has is his good name and character to defend and so anyone that tries to smear it falsely must pay let them face the courts and answer in embarrassment because of their stupidity to falsehood and company take them for every penny Mr PM and don’t get soft on sympathy this is serious stuff tear into their pockets and get your full recompense and when you get those monies give it to the soup kitchens and receive more blessings because the nation can see that God is with uou.

  6. Hon. Gaston Browne sometimes you are too soft. On Saturday all five members of UPP have defammed you and Family. I will be disappointed if you do not sue the following persons..

    SHUGY

    Serpent

    Bowen

    Richard

    Ali B from ZDK radio.

They have defammed you and Family. Please sue THEM

  7. Well Mr PM.
Sir let me suggest something to you.
Save your energy for the Russian family , that has you and your love ones in their cross hair.
Sir, what are you going to do when they loose in the courts again .
Sir, do you think they will just simply walk away and leave you alone.
Do you remember this name opposition leader Alexey Navalny or perhaps general Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Save your energy sir these people are playing Major league soccer while you are playing village league.
I beg of you save your energy….

  8. This man is a joke 😂.

This joker went and seized a boat and didn’t have a clue about how to sell anything, and sold the boat for pennies on the dollar..what an idiot.

That boat worth over $100 mil on the open market right now, and this financial fool got greedy and desperate for money and sold such a sweet vessel for pennies. Just shaking my damn head with this guy.

Hey Gatson, again, we are not the ones that need convincing, it’s those Russian lawyers that actually know the law.

No judge would approve a sobpenea if credible or plausible evidence wasn’t brought forward, so who you trying to fool?

You had no right to sell the boat, none.
And here is the thing, if you are correct on everything you did pertaining to this case, then just wait for your court date and prove your case? But most people that follow this case knows better, because they know that once their is a court case, nothing can be called slander until all evidence are put forward. Until then, just take your licks. As of now, everything is “allegedly”.

So stop your famous bullying tactics, because they won’t work.

Not everyone is as soft as J-truth who you silenced with a few threatening words.

By the way J-truth, you are an idiot to let this man scare you. It actually hurt your brand..now no one even want to hear your opinions.

  9. Wasn’t it the Russian owner of the yacht who said that it was sold for $50mill and not $40mill? Why don’t you sue her. Remember this, the Russian Yacht is not Antigua and Barbuda assets that can be taken at will. Somebody is going to pay for the theft of this yacht.
If you put money in a corporation or trust in your family’ name is the money not still yours? Talking about you have no foreign account. Who are you trying to fool.
