Gaston Browne Questions George Wehner’s Credentials in St. Peter By-Election Campaign
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has raised questions about the qualifications and background of George Wehner, the United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for the upcoming January 14 by-election in the St. Peter constituency. Speaking on Pointe FM, Browne critiqued Wehner’s track record, claiming that his contributions to the table are negligible.
Browne specifically addressed Wehner’s tenure with the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, where the UPP candidate reportedly received an honorable discharge. Browne suggested that the discharge was not reflective of exemplary service but was granted, in part, due to political intervention during his administration.
“George Wehner was in serious controversy with the leadership of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force,” Browne stated. He alleged that Wehner clashed with the then-commander and sought to remove his superior through a petition. “Whereas they wanted to take action against him and probably discharge him dishonorably, he was protected politically,” Browne added.
The Prime Minister went on to note that Wehner’s honorable discharge was finalized after the government changed in 2014. According to Browne, the decision was reviewed and approved by the National Security Council, which he chairs.
Wehner, a longstanding member of the UPP, has been an outspoken critic of the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP). His campaign has focused on issues such as transparency, governance, and community development. Browne’s remarks suggest that the St. Peter race is shaping up to be one of the most contentious by-elections in recent years.
As the campaign heats up, voters in St. Peter are likely to weigh these allegations and counterarguments while deciding who will best represent their interests in Parliament.

In this by-election, a military man, who offered his life (accepting death, if it must occur) for his country, and the other is a guy who expressed that you must not election him on merit but giving him a chance as an MP before you consider his merit.
I promise you I am not a supporter of UPP, and I am no longer a supporter of ABLP but I find the things ABLP says and do to be idiotic and they are mistakes that had they hire experts in social, behavioral and strategic science these mistakes would not occur.
I think ABLP need a break from leading the country to regroup. For them to realize they are not doing their best and they do not have the best available talent. My critique of them is based on the fact they are the current leaders of the country. And this is in no way implying UPP is any better. But focus for me is on who is in charge.
Antigua doesn’t have a military just a bunch a clowns running around playing army man. What war can antiguans fight ? They can’t even stop the invasion of Chinese, Syrians and everyone else that’s infiltrating this dump.
I have read on this very news-portal, the ruling of the Court against the hierarchy of the Antigua & Barbuda Defence Force.
I wonder what have the prime minster done with regards to these rulings?
George Wehner may have been on to the illegality in the Antigua & Barbuda Defence Force long time ago.
@my way.. Chérizier aka Bargeque, was a police officer for the Haitian National Police prior to becoming a gang leader. You see how Wehner purports to take out his opponents in the last general election..
Just research all the leaders who had military background who went on to become dictators..
I say no more
So if this is your way of helping, I shudder to imagine if you were NOT helping!
So he challenges his superiors to do better, be better and they ousted him from the military. Now he is running for politics. It is double edged sword, to be sure.
Turner however, after he didnt win the last election, wanted to take back the little houses that were built for the community to use.
Choose who you want to be your mouthpiece, St Peters.
The PM should be the last person to speak about dishonour. Sick tomock.
Ok so it’s Gaston running in st Peter’s as how he was running in st Mary’s against shuggy, there is a more aggressive campaign semantics coming from Gaston than turner who is running.
Speaking from a non political voice, but one who served in the ABDF during Mr. Whenner tenure,i can say that he is a man who will stand up for his subordinates even if it takes challenging his superiors. I remember in 2001 during independence rehearsal at camp blizzard major Dunnah had the platoons going over the same drills over and over. And it was Mr . Whenner who was a captain at the time who stood up for the ranks. This is truly a man for the under dog. Ask any soldier who was there at that time and they can verify this story. And i can give many more.
Stop the hypocrisy Gatson Browne, please.
You knighted a AG that hasn’t done shit for Antigua in his capacity as AG, and knighted many others who hasn’t even serve their country and stand up for the people as this man Mr Wehner has done.
The same respect you gave to your police commish for doing not a damn thing to combat crime, should be given to this former soldier who severed on the behest of his commander and chief( the PM)
So lay off the man please, and go and find out what’s the motive for the assassination of the late MP Asot Michael..that’s what you should be focused on, how to stop crime in this country and how to motivate your inept Commish and AG on how to do their jobs.
Mr Wehner is a good man,and a Patriot. Way better than the fools you keep buying out in Dwayne George and Smith and the rest of the sellouts.
You can’t buyout Wehner, so you don’t like him, for his great job he did exposing many of your failures with his documentations on social media for your neglect of your duties to make Antigua a better place.
St Peter deserve a man that cares, and anyone can see that this man Wehner cares deeply about his place of birth.
So keep talking, because that’s all you are, a great salesman that’s full of bullshit, and have been spewing that bullshit on your radio station every week.but many are not fooled MR PM. Many would say that UPP ain’t no batter, but I would tell those people, that UPP doesn’t have to be better than anyone, they just have to do their jobs and serve the people with honestly and care, which you are certainly lacking, because if you care, you wouldn’t try and tarnish a former soldier like this..caring people don’t do that, they inspire people to be better, that’s what caring looks like.
You steady try to tear down your own people, that’s what you do..a terrible leader you are.
When does this guy get the time to be commenting on everything UPP? He needs to tell the authorities what he knows, if he does, about Mr. Michael’s demise. ALP’s playbook is still relevant even today.
