Antigua and Barbuda is taking steps towards food sovereignty, with the government investing in agricultural infrastructure, abattoirs, and a new agro-processing hub, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said.
The former Ken’s Club property at Cassada Gardens will become a retail and wholesale hub for the Central Marketing Corporation, including cold storage and processing facilities. The Ministry of Agriculture has also acquired heavy equipment to build feeder roads and improve farmlands.
“By feeding ourselves, we are feeding our pride and preserving our sovereignty,” Mr Browne said, noting that local farmers would have guaranteed markets for their products.
