Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has criticised Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle for filing a police complaint over a failed concert performance, calling it a civil matter.
Pringle lodged a report with the Criminal Investigations Department after artist Armani Givenchy Moodie, contracted through Stardom Records, failed to perform at a Labour Day event in May. Pringle said half of the US$10,000 fee had been paid, but the team never showed up and the deposit was not refunded.
In a Facebook post, Browne questioned the use of police resources, saying: “Why would Pringle and his UPP acolytes seek to drag the Royal Antiguan & Barbudan Police Force into this civil squabble over $5,000?” He also offered to repay the amount “if they are so desperate”.
Pringle said he pursued legal steps after receiving no apology or reimbursement and believed the artist might return for Carnival, prompting him to seek police support.

Dunce Pringle. All you had to do is wait until the artiste comes and you do what you have to do by making the police report
Gaston Browne:
“Why would Pringle and his UPP acolytes seek to drag the Royal Antiguan & Barbudan Police Force into this civil squabble over $5,000?”.
Because Prime Minister, you a history of wasting taxpayers money, whether it’s the folly of the Alpha Nero; the lack of due diligence in putting out Tenders for building constructions, or this $5,000 dollars, after your 10-11 of tutelage, it all adds up and is money down the drain.
I’m sure Browne is a lot more careful in how he spends his money.
He just doesn’t get it, does he?
Mind you, I had to laugh when Gaston used the term “acolytes” … I thought it was the other way round 🤣🤣🤣
If he didn’t they will believe they can do as them like with us Antiguans all the time time, they always saying we fool fool so its good to teach them is not everytime they going to get away with their mess, Everything is not political.
Yea Gassy he can buy some blocks with that for his house at Cades Bay or give one of he gold digging woman dem! 🤣😂
The Emperor’s New Clothes” by Hans Christian Andersen.
I believe that the Honourable Leader of the Opposition took the right and best course of action. If you paid a deposit for an artist to appear and the artist failed to show up, it’s a matter for the police. It’s is the artist responsibility to reimburse the advanced payment that he received. We do not have to politicize everything.
That’s a weird reply. Why would you complain about a person going to police about a matter? If it was the wrong outlet they would have redirect him to the appropriate spot and the offer to pay it back making it seems like it’s a small sum of money is also weird and a trend to belittle MP while flexing wealth that most of his support do not have.
We don’t want anything from you..gassy!
Keep your money!
Not all money is good money!
Btw you and pixie look terrible at the tshirt mas dancing!
Pixie had no rhythm, and you look terrible behind her 🤔🤫
Geeeez!
@Audley Phillip… “If you paid a deposit for an artist to appear and the artist failed to show up, it’s a matter for the police.” No!! You are dead wrong!
It is a CIVIL matter, not a criminal matter. The circumstance here is one of breach of contract. The artiste did NOT steal Pringle’s money so it cannot be a matter for the police. In fact, if the police were to arrest the artiste, he can sue the police for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment. I would be VERY surprised if the police even as much as entertain the complaint; they ought to have advised Pringle to go to a lawyer and sue the artiste.
As if it’s a good gesture prime minister Gaston making to pay Pringle the money the artist received, both Gaston and Pringle have the same handlers, the one percenters finance both party, Pringle have money in the upp chest to go pay Jamaican $10,000.00usd to go gyrate and chat crap, and me sure upp supporters there need their house fix or build or replace from fire or health issues to seek medical attention abroad which is costly, and Gaston want go give $5000.00usd and me sure people need help, but according to the system the politicians seek out handlers to control the electorate or citizens by any means, be it electronic gadget give away or parties with dubbing and nude exposure, the both party need to look at the people needs instead a monetize their stay in power. Some a them monies they get from their handlers to get into office could rebuild communities and create resources for employment, why a politician don’t just take these monies from the crookish investor and help the poor? Because we must remain poor to provide resources for the wealthy to make more money off us in low wages, and the politicians want to hit the lottery jackpot, and that’s the treasury where all the money is, people should be treated as human with some compassion. Gaston and Pringle have a heart.
Hear this joker again.
The man have the right to pursue his grievances any how he wants Gatson.
Is it your money or his?
When Antiguan’s complain to you about wasting their money, what did you do, you ignore them.
So leave the man to his own money. At least he is showing that he’s not a walk over when it comes to his money, something you should learn when you just frivolously waste the peoples money in all your bad deals.
Principal is principal, and Pringle is following his principles, and not allowing anyone to “Duped ” him like you keep getting ” Duped” by the Nigerians ( your words, not mine).
Audley Phillip , after telling you that Pringle case is a civil matter, you have the heart to say it’s a police case? You just failed another exam.
@Maths July 29, 2025 At 5:08 pm
You are spot on. I don’t know when Audley will get it right. Have advised him time and time again, do your research before you put your pen to paper.
So if I make a complain to the police that I lend my friend some money and he dom’t want to pay me back, they will go and arrest my friend. Just by my word only. These are civil dispute between two individual. If I said that my friend stole my money, then the police will investigate by arresting my friend as part of their inquiry. If he denied it they will have to let him go.
This matter and its attending discussions illustrates numerous customary deficiencies in owner society.
It is not inordinate that individuals seek out the Police help in civil matters. That’s a long time custom; and have seen it in operation on numerous occasion.
The fact is the Police traditionally pick and choose who they respond to and help.
Recently, these was an attempt service of Cease and Desist brought to me by a Police to stop fence my family land.
Ironically this was being done on behalf of a Gaston family member claiming the rights to land to build a hotel.
So the Pringle matter may be a civil matter. But the common practice and ones relations with the forever Acting Commissioner of Police or senior members of his team determines whether the matter is handled by Police warning and or intimidation; or the engagement of an attorney.
Here is an issue that demonstrates the need for further institutional and national building engagement and discourse by academics at UWI Five Islands rather than meddling in politics.
Everything is not political, Police department are for all citizens, if a citizen is unable to file a police report befor taking the action to court, then action becomes personal that person should never be able to have a show or concert in Antigua uninterrupted.
