Prime Minister Gaston Browne has warned that the world is “tethering on the edge of implosion” as multiple crises intensify global instability.
Speaking at the Medays 2025 Forum in Morocco, he said nations were facing one of the most volatile periods in modern history, driven by geopolitical tensions, climate shocks, food insecurity, digital disruption, mounting debt and the lasting effects of COVID-19.
“These pressures are not academic for small states,” he said. “They are daily constraints on our ability to plan, to invest, and to protect our people.”
Browne called for urgent international cooperation, arguing that no nation can withstand cycles of instability alone.
He also highlighted what he described as “historic legal victories” for vulnerable states. He pointed to Antigua and Barbuda’s leadership in the Commission of Small Island States on Climate Change and International Law (COSIS), which recently secured an advisory opinion confirming that countries causing marine harm through greenhouse gas emissions are violating international obligations.
“These opinions strengthen the legal rights of all states whose people and economies are threatened by climate damage,” he said.
Browne warned that failure to curb emissions would “imperil human civilization,” accusing wealthy nations of profiting from fossil fuels while developing states bear the burden. He urged major emitters to take decisive action to keep the 1.5°C warming limit within reach.

Boi please gee we ah break.
I guess GB has truly joined the cabal, who is instigating this global warming propaganda.
Who ring did you kiss now GB..I see you are fully invested in this global warming con, because every minute you’re flying all over the place on the purse of the tax payers.
You can’t find money to pay the pensioner’s, but every minute you and your entourage are on a flight to God knows where.
Smdh.
They are all duplicitous hypocrites @Islanman26. Time and time again many have mentioned that many of the travelogues that these pro climate change politicians go to can easily be done by zoom or other Internet communications.
This method of world communication is now a must if what our politicians are telling us about global warming is true. Again, why so many of us are sceptical, because they are not setting a example.
They could easily save our treasury funds for more important things than spread harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Just imagine Gaston Browne’s entourage and also lickie lickie side-saddlers that accompany him on these freebies.
Remember, Gaston Browne is the unaccountable and untransparent Finance Minister. We haven’t got a chance with him STILL at the helm.
The climate emergency people have been saying this since 2000 and the world hasn’t ended yet. That should tell you all you need to know.
A powerful and necessary argument. Small island states have been saying for years that GDP alone cannot capture vulnerability, resilience needs, or the real cost of climate exposure. Browne pushing again for a fairer global financial architecture is right on point, especially as the gaps keep widening
Every time Caribbean leaders push this conversation, the big players nod politely and keep the same rulebook. Browne’s frustration feels earned
Whether or not global warming is true or false; it can be argued.
Gaston has taken the position that it’s true, while he does nothing to address what ever way it can can be mitigated in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Government promotes the LPG facility as progress as a sign of development. A major fossil fuel.
The government has has no interest in controlling the use of fossil fuel at home, but goes abroad with crocodile tears with hat in hand crying for mitigation and infrastructure financing.
It approves projects built on mangroves and wetlands. The very system to prevent ocean surges and flooding from heavy rainfall are being destroyed.
The Cookes dump in the shadows of UWI Five Islands is producing more uncontrolled methane gas affecting the atmosphere as much as that of industrial countries activities proportionally.
Does anyone thinks the various developed countries that Gaston Browne is expected to finance his campaign for climate resilience
going to caught up any real money.
Chaina the current biggest polluter will not. India the second largest polluter will not.
Will the US who did not attend COP30 put their money into this idea.
Will the US investors holding the debt say they are going to give up their money for global warming mitigation?
It’s time to get real. The UN can’t stop genocide in Palestine but they are going to be able to get developed countries to pay into Gaston’s SIDS fund?
We praise political theatre of vitriol and polarization. Reasoning and the presentation facts don’t have a place in this discourse
Any contribution to further lowering temperature and to undeniable path to mediocrity stupidity, and stagnation is out.
It’s all about following the path to making money
