Prime Minister Gaston Browne has addressed criticism from opposition members who boycotted discussions on the 2025 budget, emphasizing the importance of Parliament as a forum for dialogue and collaboration.
The budget was presented as a framework for economic growth, social development, and national progress.
The opposition cited insufficient time to review the budget documents as their reason for not participating in the debates. Browne rejected this claim, stating, “The budget documents were provided more than a week before the debate.
Their absence is a disservice to the people they represent.”
Browne reiterated the significance of the budget in addressing critical areas such as healthcare, infrastructure, and education.
“This budget is designed to empower citizens and foster economic resilience,” he said. He added that measures to combat poverty and promote upward mobility were key components of the plan.
The Prime Minister expressed disappointment with the opposition’s decision, urging them to engage in constructive dialogue. “Parliament is the place to resolve issues through debate, not by walking out,” he said.
“The people of Antigua and Barbuda deserve representatives who are present and accountable.”
Browne emphasized the role of an effective opposition in improving governance, stating, “A strong opposition presents alternatives and engages in meaningful policy discussions, not distractions.”
The 2025 budget was approved despite the opposition’s absence, with Browne describing it as a practical plan to advance the nation’s development. “We must all work together to build a better future for our citizens,” he said.

Big disgrace@! Useless in Parliament. Flying under the radar to AVOID DEBATE
The PM has nothing to defend. The UPP MP’s were caught with their pants down. They had not prepared and wanted to use the presentation from the minister as rebuttal. But that is not a debate. Especially not on the budget. The Prime Minister had his budget speech and they needed to speak on that. And any criticism the PM would have addressed when he is wrapping up the debate.
These guys are so out of their debt. Its not funny. It’s just sad. But you get the representation you voted for. And you were forewarned. We called and expose them to be conmen, laggards, lazy, rapers and murderers. Yet you voted for them. It’s only by a miracle we were spared the worst. Antigua would have become the biggest embarrassment in the whole world.
