PM Browne Slams Opposition-Aligned Media for Spreading Misinformation
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has condemned what he describes as a persistent campaign of misinformation by opposition-aligned media, alleging that false narratives are being used to destabilize the government and mislead the public.
During his weekend Browne and Browne Show, the Prime Minister asserted that certain media outlets have been deliberately distorting facts to create public distrust. He emphasized that misinformation poses a direct threat to democracy, as it influences voter perceptions based on falsehoods rather than reality.
Browne referenced legal precedents, including a Privy Council ruling that deemed deliberate misinformation a public interest threat, supporting his argument that such tactics undermine governance. He noted that opposition figures frequently collaborate with foreign journalists to spread misleading reports, often to the detriment of Antigua and Barbuda’s international reputation.
The Prime Minister also addressed recent reports concerning the Alfa Nero case, stating that some international media outlets had published false claims about missing funds. He announced that the government would be making full financial records public to counter any misinformation. Additionally, legal counsel is reviewing potential defamation claims against the Associated Press (AP) and other outlets that he said have made unsubstantiated allegations.
Beyond the Alfa Nero case, Browne criticized opposition rhetoric that he said focuses on negativity rather than presenting viable policy alternatives. He warned that continuous misinformation could erode trust in national institutions, urging the public to rely on verifiable facts rather than politically motivated distortions.
As the government considers legal action against misleading reports, Browne reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and factual accountability, stating, “We will challenge false narratives with facts, and we will not allow lies to shape the future of this country.”

Instead a being a real leader and prime minister by going on government radio and television to address the nation, Gaston on his personal radio station chatting crap of his political opponent whom he is trying to deter from advocating justice for Antiguan, Gaston don’t want the opposition to rile up the citizens into calling for mass deportation, because it threatens the ALP hold on power, and Gaston wife is of Spanish extraction and his mother inlaw all from Santo Domingo, so the the empathy from Gaston is easy to understand and they trying to terminate all crime at one young girl they not going further, they stopping the police from digging further, and they wouldn’t get the FBI because it will uncover more, so they getting our colonial masters Scotland yard whom will relay through the governor general who report to king Charles and not the people, our police have the capacity but are treated to this incompetence by a prime minister who really wield the power, the different equipment needed to do this job the budget to do such will not be given to a little black boy commissioner, only if there is a white commissioner, let it be trump like and deport them and get Antiguan culture and society back to where it is before politicians destroyed it for votes, UPP with the millennials naturalisation act and ALP with it’s everlasting amnesty for citizenship.
I really wonder who spread the most lies. A BULLY PULPIT doesn’t make lies become the truth, Brother man put your damn house in order before tainting others,
@Eldread, what are you on about? Maria Browne is not of Spanish descent. Her mother is from St. Lucia! Can’t take the rest of what you said seriously if you can’t even get that right!
PM Browne are you people useless and no threat to your that you blatantly disregard their opinions?
The opposition called on you ahead of debate to seize Alfa Nero to slow down. You had majority in parliament and brushed them aside.
Today because of article in the international press you are now promising to produce documents on how the Alfa Nero windfall was spent.
Did it have to come to that?
Did it have to take the international press for you to be transparent with the citizenry?
Do we in Antigua have to feed international press so they can knock your wrist to get you to release information?
Should Richard Lewis feed the international press to get you to release documents on the purchase and rental agreement with your son?
Why can’t you just give the people the respect they deserve and answer their questions.
By the way we will send Shuggy to you house for answers to any question we may have in the future
I knew Eldread was chatting a pile of crap because I knew Maria’s mother is St. Lucian, you cannot take anything these people say seriously, they love running their mouths and know little of which they speak, I worked on Long Street when her mother came to Antigua
Oh! Oh! My bad, apologies, I can go ahead and associate both ALP and UPP of giving these Spanish and whoever citizenship for votes under millennial act and the ALP everlasting amnesty for votes, I don’t deal with identity politics but I want justice and respect for the real Antiguan and Barbudans born that go back 3 generations, not political citizenships. Apologies bloggers it is always said that they are Spanish, but you bring clarity, respect. My other comments of the same were in the past.
