Vehicle Auction

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the government will auction off any excess vehicles found during the ongoing audit of the government’s fleet.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Browne said that once the audit and reassignment process is complete, the government will “right size the fleet,” and “any excess vehicles, that were not properly assigned will be sold at public auction.”

The announcement follows Browne’s earlier disclosure that one car dealer has agreed to repay $10 million to the government as part of efforts to recover funds tied to the controversial vehicle procurement.

The audit aims to account for all vehicles purchased in recent years, verify assignments across ministries, and ensure transparency in government asset management.

  1. This is illegal. They are getting rid of evidence(s). These vehicles should be confiscated by law enforcement and impounded as evidence.
Rawlston Pompey can you please enlighten us, on how the law works in these criminal matters?

  2. It would be interesting to know what the $10,000,000.00 represents. Is it the current value of the vehicles already returned? The value of the inventory of the total number of vehicles procured without the requisite approval? A blanket figure arrived at by both parties?
Remember, a vehicle begins to lose value the minute it leaves the sale yard, not to mention the wear and tear of use since.

  3. Lmao…They official way to allow the high position government workers to “buy” vehicles…hahahahahahaha

  4. This is what has been happening all along in Antigua. The corruption from the politicians, the self enrichment schemes , the grab, grab, all for me and none for country. Not giving the civil servants the right, but when they see those in authority, getting extremely rich over night, while they are struggling to make ends meets. What do you expect?
When the politicians only have to serve for a few terms and can retire with full benefits, while they go to Parliament and extend retirement age for the rest of us to work until we die. What do you expect?
When the citizens of this country have to wait on medical benefits at the dictates of the politicians to decide if your love one will get medical assistance or basically if the live or die. While they fly away at the expense of the state. Then what do you expect.
When you see the children of the politicians living like kings and queens and you struggle to keep on your electricity, to put food on the table. What do you expect.
The hard working people of this country are catching hell , while the crooks that get all the contracts
illegally – walks into treasury and walk out with millions .
Now poor people children going to prison for shop lifting a cell phone and die in there because he did not have a travel doctor to submit. While those that steal millions, will just pay back some and walk scotch free. So the dealer that agreed to pay back 10,000,000.00 this is not even going to trouble him a bit.
Right now the government owes him probably twice or triple that amount – probably gained from the same scheme since this has been taking place for years. This means they will be subtracting from probably the same corrupt money they owe him. That is why an investigation is so important.
Again the PM might refuse to have an inquiry based on what he has been suggesting and go the route of restitution. However, he has an obligation to the people of Antigua and Barbuda to do the right thing. Which is to get to the bottom of this and ensure that it never happens again.
I think the people of this country needs to be educated , from primary school to prevent corruption. Corruption is embedded in this country and needs to be stamped out .

  5. I hope the auction money doesn’t end up in some pocket like what happened years ago with auction at Custom.
