PM Browne Announces Plans for National Recording Studio
Antigua and Barbuda is set to establish a national recording studio aimed at supporting local artists and broadening the country’s music industry, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has revealed.
Speaking on Pointe FM, Browne said the project would be located at the ICT Centre and is expected to be ready by next year. The facility will be designed to accommodate professional production work, including live band recordings, marking what he described as a major upgrade for the nation’s creative sector.
The Prime Minister said the studio would give artists access to modern equipment and production technologies, helping them develop their craft and compete globally. He confirmed he had discussed the initiative with Education and Creative Industries Minister Daryll Matthew.

Browne also stressed that while soca and calypso remain central to the nation’s cultural identity, the new studio would encourage artists to explore a wider range of genres, including reggae, R&B and pop. “We are killing the artistry when we only incentivise soca and calypso,” he warned, urging a more inclusive approach to musical development.
In addition, Browne said he was prepared to invest in the ICT Centre to provide computers and software tools for musicians, ensuring that emerging talents have the resources to create and record songs professionally.
The initiative forms part of his government’s wider push to strengthen the creative economy and provide platforms for young artists to reach beyond Antigua and Barbuda’s shores.

This will be a dream come true. I hope that artist will share collaborate and build one another up. Big up to song writers. I saw Machel Montano bring on stage songwriters who wrote some of his biggest hits. I hope that the song writers and people with ideas for collaborate and produce stronger songs that will resonate with the global artists.. Great move Antigua
