Antigua Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs: Bajan company Pinnacle Feeds ltd. in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture held a meeting with livestock farmers at the Multipurpose Centre.
The attendance was slightly better than the one held on Wednesday with the poultry farmers. However, from a possible participation of approximately seventy known livestock farmers only twelve (12) made it to this session.
Nevertheless, the crowd was very interactive in response to the presentation done by Miss Tara Jean-Baptiste/Marketing Manager and supported by Miss Valerie Edwards/Farmer and local distributor for Pinnacle Feeds.
The power presentation was primarily on the types, components and benefits of the brand, the materials source and other pertinent information.
In addition of posing questions in relation to the information disseminated the farmers inquired also on other topics such as artificial insemination, embryo transfer and sourcing of certain breeds from the regions.
“Thank you to those farmers who came to the meeting tonight. The questions were on point, the farmers were interested in the topics presented, and the session was lively.
To those who couldn’t attend, Pinnacle Feeds will be assisting farmers in improving their animals’ genetic material. They will be hosting an artificial insemination seminar within a month’s time.
Please let me know as soon as possible which of you are interested and which animals you’re looking to breed, such as pig, cattle or sheep/goat, or all of them. Please let me know as soon as possible”, stated Miss Edwards.
The Ministry of Agriculture will continue to collaborate with likeminded partners and stakeholders whose endeavour in the quest of Food Security and Food Sovereignty.
The ways forward are youth involvement, a tremendous increase of local food production and a drastic decrease of food importation.
