Venezuelans gathered outside the Holy Family Cathedral in Michael’s Mount on Saturday to participate in a special mass, offering prayers for peace, justice, and democracy in their homeland.

Background: On Saturday, August 17, the Venezuelan opposition, led by the Democratic Unitary Platform, organized national and international protests to challenge the electoral results of July 28, which declared Nicolás Maduro of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) as the winner.

The event, called the “Great World Protest For The Truth,” urged participants to bring their voting records (the actas) to the protest sites. The National Campaign Command of María Corina Machado and Edmundo González reported that mobilizations took place in more than 115 cities.

Machado claimed that the opposition had electoral tallies that supposedly proved their victory, although these were never submitted to the Supreme Court of Justice.

  3. Antigua should deport these troublesome people before they bring their troubles to Antigua. Venezuela is like that for a reason.

  4. Tell that shill for the outside power brokers to go to HELL with her hypocrisy about prayer. She knows she’s lying about Venezuela’s election — Her party didn’t win!
They need to pray for the lifting of the US sanctions that continues to strangle Venezuela, causing massive unemployment starvation, increase crime and violence, and all other manner of evils that evolves from the deprivations that economic sanctions creates.

  5. Oh please, I’ve yet to meet a person who goes to the Holy Family Cathedral who actually supports Gaston Browne (yet I’ve met tons who are against him).

  6. People have a right to stand up for their rights.Unlike you people Inna Antigua. Are you no stand up for nutten.Gaston Browne did say,he transferred voters from his Constituency into those of his fellow team members. What did you people do? You lapped your tails between your legs and went to sleep. That is why Gaston BROWNE COULD DO WHAT THE HELL HE WANTS AND NOTHING WOUILD BE DONE ABOUT IT. For he is the LAW and above all Laws in ANtigua and Barbuda. One day, some day,it would all come to an end.By any means necessary.

  7. @Eldread. Sir, the catholic church is only honouring the request for prayer with a mass requested by Venezuelan and other residents living in Antigua. It has nothing to do with politics, instead turning to a way of peacefully praying for their nation to be respected alongside democracy like in any other parts of the world would do. For information purposes, the majority of countries around the world are not recognizing the government results of the last elections in detriment of their citizens that went out in mass to cast their votes; and they, those citizens, are not accepting the results, so much so, that if we missed it, the population, meaning the majority that cannot be hidden in photos and actions, are being in the streets protesting for days, although some being put in prison for doing so etc. etc. Please don’t blame the Catholic church; the mass service that was requested by parishioners to hold prayers for the suffering globally known Venezuelan people which is a means or ways of the latin american population in this instance, to ask the almighty for peace, justice, clarity and solutions for situations that take place in their countries. #God, faith, peace, love, cooperation and coordination do work for each individual that is just not given-up and accepting dire situations. ‘Politics’ is not all there is in this world. There is much more. Comments are Submitted with all due respect. ☮️💟
