  1. wat a ting !
lucky the truck driver stop, would have lost your entire car front.
wrong or right, respect the larger machine people.

  2. I’m more interested in how the
street looks. When will they, (especially the ones in our capital) be stripped and redone? This is the first place visitors see – sometimes the only place. What impression are they left with? You can’t tell me that a plan cannot be implemented to get it done. For example working nights and weekends would be a start.

  3. Always make way for heavy duty vehicles,
Some of these drivers these days think that because they may have the right way, they can do whatever they want, with out regards for heavy duty vehicles,or emergency vehicles at times…

Some of them need to read over the driver’s manual….

  4. The driver is in his lane. Does a vehicle being large mean they don’t have to ensure proper clearance and alert other drivers before making a turn?

  5. Truck almost out, car could’ve wait…. Right away is one thing but using your judgement is also important. The truck is almost out, seem like the car try to rush the truck

  6. So are you people saying if you drive a heavy duty vehicle you must always be given right of way and disregard the driver in a smaller vehicle, bull shit rules must be observed by all drivers

  7. The left lane (truck) is for continur straight on Redcliffe st while the right lane (car) is for turning right onto Market Street. From this photo the truck is wrong for changing lane without indicating and waiting for the clear to do so. Both vehicles seemed to move once Market Street was clear and the truck ended up causing this collision by turning onto the car.

  8. Truly, I wonder about our residents, when I read the commentary on these articles/publications.
Yes, each one is entitled to have an opinion as well as the right to express it. But with rights, we also have responsibilities, such as to the truth, and to what is right, or what is fair, among others.

According to the traffic regulations, on streets such as this with lanes according to the where the driver intends to go, he or she should occupy appropriate lane. Of course one may need to switch from one lane to another, for whatever reason. However, such switching can’t be willy-nilly.

According to what is represented by the photos, it appears that the armoured truck, (whether from a parked/waiting position or otherwise) manoeuvred from the left-most lane, which a driver who intends to proceed along Redcliffe Street, would occupy, of course observe the stop sign 🛑 at the Market Street junction.
The motor car, occupied the right-hand lane, which a driver who intends to proceed along Market Street, would occupy.
The driver of the truck, if he/she intends to make the right turn onto Market Street, is responsible to safely manoeuvre to the right-hand lane, of course, after signaling his/her intention to do so. Truck driver, however, MUST WAIT for the any driver that happens to occupy that right-hand lane TO YIELD THEIR RIGHT OF WAY to him/her.
A truck doesn’t automatically have right of way, just by virtue of its size. ALL MOTORISTS are subject to the same traffic laws, and rules of the road!

For some time now, I’ve been curious to know what happened to the HIGHWAY CODE?
Is it still MANDATORY STUDY MATERIAL for applicants desirous of obtaining a Driver’s License in Antigua & Barbuda?
Do driving instructors no longer INSIST that learners obtain a copy, whether purchase or borrow?
I know I’m dating myself here, but there was a time you didn’t get into the vehicle for road test without correctly answering questions based on the Highway Code, on the day of the PRACTICAL TEST, that is.
THE HIGHWAY CODE IS A UNIVERSAL CODE. Road signs and road markings are the same globally, no matter what language you speak, or whether you drive on the left or right side of the road! The red octagonal sign 🛑, is signal to STOP anywhere in the world! The inverted triangle, of a red border on white background, is the universal sign to YIELD, and so on. Things such as rules on approaching a Roundabout – in our case here, as drivers on the left, one MUST GIVE WAY TO TRAFFIC ON THE RIGHT! And NEVER BLOCK the Roundabout! If the exit one needs to take is not clear, do not enter the roundabout; this enables traffic to enter the roundabout and flow in other directions if necessary.
Driving in Antigua, I often wonder whether some of our road users have EVER read the Highway Code, or if they simply abandoned it once license was obtained! And we seem afraid to use our indicators/turn signals, perhaps afraid that APUA might bill us for that ‘light’😁!

I don’t know whether Transport Board, as the administrators of examination for license eligibility, feels they bear any responsibility for the increase in traffic accidents across the nation, primarily amongst younger drivers. Yes, I know that each driver is ultimately responsible for managing the vehicle he/she is driving, but perhaps there is an opportunity to dive deeper and tighten up the processes and procedures of becoming eligible for this privilege of being a licensed driver. Perhaps introducing the theoretical aspects in our schools’ curriculum and then only becoming eligible for a PERMIT to LEARN the PRACTICAL aspects ONLY AFTER SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION of the THEORY (perhaps amend the age of eligibility even to 18 instead of 16 for permits).
    Things to consider!
We are capable of greatness in this country! Let’s get there!
