Pensioners land lots sold out as locals snap up beachfront property

2

All land lots at Pensioners have been sold, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said, pointing to strong local demand for beachfront property as Antiguans and Barbudans seek investment and long-term asset ownership.

Speaking on a local radio programme, Browne said the sell-out reflects growing interest in affordable, well-located land suited for short-term rentals, small commercial ventures and mixed-use development. He said the area was opened to citizens to allow ordinary people to participate more directly in tourism and real estate, sectors traditionally dominated by large investors.

Browne said many buyers plan to develop vacation rentals or small businesses, enabling locals to benefit from the country’s expanding tourism market. He added that the response at Pensioners supports advancing similar initiatives, including the Shell Beach project, as entry points for citizens without the capital required for large hotel developments.

The prime minister said the programme aligns with the government’s broader wealth-creation strategy, aimed at expanding land access for low- and middle-income earners and building a “stakeholder society” in which more citizens own productive assets and share directly in national development.
