UPP Political Leader selects Quinn-Williams

to succeed Nicholas in the Upper House

Political Leader of the United Progressive Party Jamale Pringle has selected Mrs. Pearl Quinn-Williams to succeed Senate Minority Leader Shawn Nicholas in the Upper House.

Senator Nicholas announced her departure during the sitting of Tuesday, November 19, and will be stepping down after an 11-year tenure, on Friday, November 22.

Quinn-Williams will receive her Instrument of Appointment on Monday, November 25, at Government House, where Sir Clare Roberts, Governor-General’s Deputy, will preside.

MP Pringle, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lower House, is responsible for his Party’s senatorial appointments.  He lauds Nicholas for her exemplary service and has cited “the professionalism with which you have carried out your senatorial duties; the high standard of your discourse, inside and outside the Chamber; and the loyalty you have demonstrated as a representative of the United Progressive Party.”

Meanwhile, he is extending to Quinn-Williams “sincere appreciation for the professionalism, diligence, good citizenship, and party loyalty you have demonstrated as a Caretaker,” and charges her with achieving “an even higher level of excellence in this new appointment.”

The United Progressive Party assures there has been no “resignation” by Senator Nicholas and confirms that she continues in her capacity as General-Secretary of the organization.

The Leadership, Executive and Membership of the Party sincerely congratulate Sister Quinn-Williams on her elevation and extend heartfelt gratitude and admiration to Sister Nicholas for her faultless representation in the Senate and the Nation.

  1. Shawn Nicholas did not resign on her own! She was forced out! Her resignation is just a cover to tone down the embarrassment that she will face! UPP really doesn’t care about people! The Woman( Giselle)who is leading the party can’t stand a bone in her! Nicholas therefore had no choice!

  5. An excellent choice. I have followed Pearl Quinn-Williams political career, and she doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

I’ll raise a glass or two🥂 on the 25th of November to celebrate her Instrument of Appointment at Goverment House.

A thorough professional, and I wouldn’t be surprised for her to lead the UPP party as the first female Prime Minister in the 2030s.

    Again congratulations 🎊

  6. ABLP evidently understands SUCCESSION PLANNING. Mr. Pringle what say you??? U take out 1 old fowl and replace it with another owl fowl in the Senate??

  7. From one ole fowl to da next ole fowl. U mean to tell me no ambitious young woman under the age of 40 inna UPP could have been appointed a senator? Jokes really do write themselves. 10. She was already BADMOUTHING KEM WARNER!!! So now we see who Gisele prefers. Boy miss Knight wasn’t lying. That WOMEN’S FORUM really control UPP.

Miss Knight is serpent 🐍 mouthpiece. He too coward to frankly speak his mind, so he use Miss Knight as a front.

Let me educate you, if you didn’t know. Because it seems as though the UPPites are not educated on the protocol for funerals as it relates to government’s intervention.
State funerals by its title, is a privilege given to heads of state or nationalheroes, ie:
Prime Ministers who passed while in office,
Former Prime Ministers on either side
    Governors General, Former Governors General.
    National Heroes

    Official funerals:
    Deputy Prime Ministers
    Former DPMs
    Deputy GGs
    Former DGGs.
    Members of Parliament
Public servants with distinguished service by the decision of the cabinet.

That’s the protocol. If you read the executive laws of Antigua and Barbuda, you will find it for yourself.

UPP has no private business. It’s open for the public to see.

  12. @Zckie

    What “business”?????

You don’t see all UPP’s dirty laundry being aired in public?

  13. Armageddon Time

    @ Brixtonian
Yuh nah tired chat BS ? Which next prime minister?
Something tell me yuh nah lub Antigua and Barbuda people. Ah wey you from, Brixton? If you can imagine Pearl Quinn as prime minister of this country, then you must have some deep seated hatred for this country and its people. Wey yuh Come from? When she gets into parliament we will all see her inadequacies. She is lacking!
Me nah really lub de political ting, yuh know? But me just haffu say something in defence of country. Anybody know de idiot?

  14. @DAVE RAY: How it is.That you are always defending Gaston Browne and his GBLP/ABLP.They promised you a position and then kicked you to the curb. The people coming over from the UPP to join GBLP are doing very well $$$$.What have they given to you, absolutely nothing. You Red Kool Aid,Jim Jones drinkers like to be SODOMIZED.
    In my opinion:
Gaston Browne and the Cabinet could make an exception and give Asot Michael a State Funeral.

  15. So Mrs Quinn-Williams, you just gave in and KISS THE RING? For what? A $2000 a month stipend and a chance to get into the senate and run your mouth and talk about Foots? Never thought you were that shallow.

You had a good chance to improve your constituency and to do better this time, But you let Gisele and Pringle push you out and put in a Labour come over man? Many people thought better of you. You have poor Ms Knight in tears.

What is so sweet in the Senate that you want to go there so much that you let them run you out of rural north? Just to talk so you will be on center stage? Do you think this is CCJ? You never got over yourself about CCJ and this has messed up your thinking about yourself very bad.

Replacing Senator Nicholas is no big deal. She was only there holding on for a good pension pay check. She did not want to leave because she too fell in love with the bright lights. In fact, it looks like she was forced out. But she can continue to work for the Canada man.

Why didn’t you fight the Lipstick and the Dog pick up man for your seat?
Where are you going now? To City East, or St Peters, or St Phillips?

Do you care? Because anywhere you go you will lose. So it looks like all you wanted was a small paycheck and a mike to show off yourself and have people call you Senator. It looks like your political career as a candidate is finish.
You made a bad decision, Lady Pearl.

Remember, if they treat you bad, we have a place over here for you. Don’t know what you qualify for but we will find something for you to do.

  16. @ Dave Ray

I do agree with you, “That’s the protocol. If you read the executive laws of Antigua and Barbuda, you will find it for yourself.”

However, I do believe that there is already a precedent set for, “a sitting Member of Parliament”, to be accorded a state funeral.

If I am not mistaken, the Hon. Charlesworth Samuel, MP for All Saints East and St. Luke (I’m open to corrections, but I think that was the constituency he represented), was accorded a State Funeral when he died several years ago.

I daresay, Hon. Asot Michael has done MORE than any CURRENT or FORMER parliamentarian (save V. C. Bird), for Antigua and Barbuda and her people, far beyond the members of the constituency of St. Peter.
I really don’t know much about the legacy of the good gentleman Samuel, not much is recorded in our history, except that he was an MP and Agricultural minister.

But I put it to you, all and sundry, that Asot Michael, is far more deserving of a state funeral than Mr. Samuel was.

THERE, I SAID IT!! THAT IS MY CONSIDERED OPINION!

  17. Well everyone is looking for some sort of income. And since Shawn has already earned her pension she has nothing more to gain. Hope she can sit out ten years so she also sill be getting a pension like her big sister. It’s all about the money people
