Mrs. Pearl Quinn-Williams will be sworn in as a senator during a ceremony at Government House on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 11 a.m. The event will be presided over by Sir Clare Roberts, the Governor-General’s Deputy.
Quinn-Williams has been selected by Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle to succeed Shawn Nicholas in the Upper House.
Senator Nicholas, who announced her resignation during the Senate sitting on Tuesday, November 19, will officially step down today Friday, November 22, after an 11-year tenure.
Quinn-Williams, who previously served as a UPP caretaker, has been recognized by Pringle for her dedication and commitment.
“Sincere appreciation for the professionalism, diligence, good citizenship, and party loyalty you have demonstrated as a caretaker,” he said, urging her to continue striving for excellence in her new role.
The United Progressive Party (UPP) emphasized that Nicholas’s departure is not a resignation from the party but a transition to focus on her role as General-Secretary.
The UPP Leadership, Executive, and Membership extended their congratulations to Quinn-Williams on her appointment and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nicholas for her exceptional contributions to the Senate and the nation.

Absolutely fantastic news, and thoroughly deserved. The Honourable Pearl Quinn-Williams has gone under the radar, but has never been afraid to voice her strong political opinions.
I’ve always admired strong Antiguan women, whereas some misogynistic Antiguan men do not. Their loss …
Many congratulations, and well deserved madam.
The UPP is in good hands.

Ok. 🤐🤔🤫🫣
Pearl is not a people’s person. This is the furthest she will get and she will likely make the canvassing for a tenure that guarantees a pension. At 35 I have to work a cool 25 years minimum to guarantee such.
Pearl “FOOTS” Quinn???? Can’t be serious!! Wamp to young Wehner????
She pulled out the leadership race at whose behest???
Now she’s been “rewarded” with Senate role?
That is Pearl’s payback for supporting Pringle at the convention even though she used to say like many others in the party that he is a dunce. Enjoy your payday girl.
Really now all jokes aside there is absolutely no young ambitious woman in UPP under the age of 40 years old that could be appointed to the senate. Just moving from one ole fowl to da next ole fowl and btw what happen to the 10 new candidates that suppose to be revealed in October????
